The talk of Hines Ward making the Hall makes me wonder why Clayton never gets voted into the Hall of Fame. Clayton had more touchdowns, more probowls, more yards per catch than Hines Ward in three less seasons.
 
If Chris Carter and Tim Brown didn't make the hall, I don't see how Hines Ward makes it over those 2. I dunno.

You are probably right, but in a sport where there are 52 other guys on the team . . . Consistent production over the course of a long career = top 5 numbers should equal more than what it does. It shouldn't just be the GOATS w/o rings (Sanders/Marino/Gonzalez) . . . sometimes the team that you are on just isn't good enough, especially for non QB's.

I think Duper maybe hurting Clayton in a since also.
 
his popularity,notoriety,playing for a storied franchise and winning superbowls will be my guess as to why he would get the nod.

Intangibles, too. He's probably the greatest blocking WR of all time.
 
He is paired with Duper, it is almost like both would have to get in if one did in most people's minds

Clayton was a good WR but he had perhaps the best QB of all time throwing to him his entire career in a pass first offense. Ward finally got a HOF caliber QB later in his career and didn't play in a pass first offense until very late in his career.

Also, 2 undeserving Steeler WRs made it(Swann & Stallworth) and Hines' career was so much better than those 2 that people automatically assume he'll make it. I do think he probably will make it b/c he had good #s combined w/ being a great blocker on great teams that won multiple SBs plus he was a SB MVP as well.

6 seasons of 4000 or more passing yards with them, and only one after that

If someone doesn't think Clayton and Duper made marino better then you don't know football. Those 2 were amazing, dynamic receivers and playmakers.. and extremely smart and crafty.

Marino was never truly the same after he lost the Marks brothers.. he'll even tell you how much they made him better if you paid attention to his interviews when he got inducted into the hall of fame

You do recall he missed most of 1993 which was his first season w/o Duper and Clayton, right? he was on pace to have a better season than 1992 w/ those 2 and the following year coming off the major injury he had the 3rd most pass yards in his career and his best since 1986, his highest comp since '84, his most TDs since '86.

Marino's greatest memories were the early years w/ Clayton and Duper b/c he was at his best early and in the beginning of the prime of his career. He made those 2, not the other way around. They were good WRs made to look much better by such a great QB. Neither did anything w/o him.

Perhaps, but we may never know what would have happened had Marino never had the Achilles injury.
