So I recently moved and found some of my old football cards. I came across some Mark Duper cards and noticed his face mask (or lack there of). So since I didnt really watch the Dolphins in the Duper era does anyone know why he only had that small little "kickers" face mask? I just found it odd, and have never noticed any other WR with that mask. Has anyone that watched games then and know about him ever heard anything about his facemask? Did he have it for a particular reason? Did he ever get his eyes hurt because of it? Did he have it his whole career? Thanks for any insite:jetssuck:

I'm not sure why he chose that face mask but yes, he did have it his whole career. I do recall him being poked in the eye at least once and recall a time Marino hit him directly in the face with the ball.

As far as I can remember Dupe always wore that old style face mask. Plenty of wideouts around Marks era wore that style...Cliff Branch, Charlie Joiner, Fred Biletnikoff and even Steve Largent had it mid career, before switching back to the more conventional mask. It was definitely a look popular in the `60s and early `70s and it always looked a little strange on the receivers I mentioned, but it was Dupers look.

So more than just Dupe wore that facemask...wow, Thats crazy. I cant even imagine a Wideout today even considering wearing one of those even if was part of an incentive package in his contract!!!! I would pay money to see Dan the Man thowing it to him and it hitting him in the face!!!! Not that I dont like him or anything, its just that it would me funny!!!

Man that just reminds me god I loved Duper he always had that big smile on his face. I remember one throw over the middle he caught...while he was crossing the field Marino threw it a fast ball and it hit him directly in the hip and Duper just stuck his hand there some how it just stuck there between his hand and his hip, and he kept running. That was one of those plays that will always stick in my mind. Man I miss those days.

I loved watching Mark play. What a great receiver. He (along with others) claimed that the masks with more than one bar negatively affected his vision while playing.

How many times did Duper make incredible catches on those fly patterns he and Dan used to hook up on? I remember the one handed go route TD he caught to beat the Jets, the 80 yard bomb to beat the Colts in `84, and when he singlehandedly torched the Steelers with his deep routes in the `84 AFC Championship game. He played a different game than Clayton, that`s for sure, but they were both lethal...Super Duper indeed!

Yeah those deep routes...Man was he Smoooth...he just stuck his one had up and the ball would just softly land in it all the while just keeping perfect stride.
And yeah Clayton what a scrappy reciever he was always trying to make those extra couple yards. What a great combo. I remember this little pass Marino threw him to win against the chiefs in the playoffs man I thought it was gunna be intercepted but he caught it just in time and turned around and scored the game winner.

One of the redskins wide recievers...Art Monk i think wore that maskkk...he was a memeber of the smurfs

Man, we`re really showing our age phinfan 1! Yep, `90 AFC Wild Card game in Miami...Clayton catches that little out pattern (thought Albert Lewis was going to pick it and go the other way for six, but hey it was Dan throwing it, not AJ Feeley) and Mark just trots into the endzone. I remember we almost scored too quick because KC marched right down the field and Nick Lowery come up just a few feet short on the FG try.

A lil where are they now on Duper...I live up in St Augustine. Duper lives in Jacksonville, about 35 miles north of here. My buddy insures him through his insurance agency and sees him occasionally. He tells me Dupe has very little money left and wouldn't be surprised if he still dabbles in a few things he shouldn't be doing...

I am going to send him a helmet to sign soon. He will always go down as a guy who got a lot out of his one chance at fame. This was a pure track star from small towm Louisianna learning to play football. I will never forget the one handed over the top 51-yeard catch to beat the loser Jets during oine season. Shula was always so fond of Dupe.

 yeah I guess we are....Yeah I remember that..I remember on that last KC drive they were moving the ball downfield pretty good than one of there olineman had a holding call that pretty much stalled there drive. And I remember seeing the replay and it wasn't holding at all but was I happy..I think one of the refs were Miami fans.
