If we pick up THE QB this offseason via draft or free agency, we will be competitive in 2 years. If we grab someone else, we will be 4-5 years out. I don't know about everyone else, but it is time to suck it up and stop shying away from getting a real QB on this roster. I know the risks are huge, but the last 4 seasons in Miami should have clearly illustrated just how essential a good QB is. This team will not make a legitimate, deep playoff push until there is a real QB on the field.

Whatever else we do this offseason, QB needs to be at the very top of the priority list.

I'm sure that Saban knows that, but I think a #1 WR isnt too far behind on that priority list.

Agreed, though I believe that the timeline is what forces us into a QB. Any QB taken in the draft is going to require at least one year to groom, with another year of making rookie mistakes and maturing into the system. This puts the rookie two full drafts/offseasons from being in the position to make a serious playoff bid. If we are on a two year rebuild, I would suggest QB and WR as top needs this year, followed by a DL and LB if they are available. The following year, I am looking for a top OL and would stock up on defensive players with what are sure to be some extra picks as Saban trades away players like Zach and JT.

My hope is that it will translate a very strong winning season for the rookie QB, and a potential Superbowl formula the following season.

i very much agree. considering the age of this defense, getting a QB this off season is crucial. if the fins dont, we can forget about taylor and zach ever playing on another good team.

The Dolphins have alot more needs than QB....and it's going to take at least 3 years.

i think we need to get a few guys on defence that can cover. sam isn't what he once was and hopefully will pool and travis daniels will be good.

I have a feeling...Taylor and Zack won't be with the Dolphins when and if the Dolphins become good enough to contend again.

it possible, but a good QB changes everything

Marino couldn't help this team....it worse than any team Shula had since his last season....and they won more games. A QB is only a small part of a very big problem. You have to replace at least half the defense....all the receivers...add a player or two on the O-line....Mare isn't getting younger or better...and at least two new QB's. Then when you get them together...it takes a year or two if your lucky enough to have acquired all the right players....for them to jell together. 3 years at best....starting right after the end of the season.

My top list in need: qb and corners, followed by a #1 and linebackers. Cant foreget about how bad our secondary is.

well, marino never had a franchise RB behind him.

im not as pessimistic about the D as you are. i think the D-Line is ok and two guys are already waiting in the wings. at the very least, they will provide good depth.

i really think the safties are OK. tillman has done well, imo and has 2 picks in the last 2 games. CBs definately. but i think that can be solved by next year.

the biggest need is LB, imo

We need a qb period. Enough of we can do this or we can do that. We have been doing the same song and dance for the past five years. Lets grow some balls and make a commitment to a young new franchise qb. GEEZ The Giants did it look how it paid off.

The D-Line is old....how old will they be....if they are still around in three years. You can't expect old players to be as good and fresh at the end of the year...and I wouldn't be counting on the guy's waiting in the wings...or is hoping part of the process? Just in linebackers...we'll have to have at least two more....sooner than later. The Dolphins are the oldest team in the NFL...and you can't get younger in just one year. Thats why I say....at 3 years.

Marino could have used one...but he still won alot of games without one...and a great defense. Guy's like Marino come once in a life time.

I'm not quite sure how our opinions differ? My prognostication was that in two years we might be in position to have a winning season, followed by a deep playoff push in the third full season. Are you suggesting we will need 3 full offseasons/drafts to become a winning team again?
