With the criminal charges it all comes down to if the judge is a Dolphin fan and whether o not he thinks Walton can help the team:lol:

He's kind of a Tony Nathan type, if I had to pick a player from Dolphins history. I'm not sure if you go back that far. Walton is not as tall or sturdy as Nathan but their styles are similar. More slippery than fast. Capable of multiple fluid moves on the same run but not really a threat to take it the distance unless everything busts wide open. Good out of the backfield. Can be used as kick returner but he'll never really scare you in that role. The Canes tried Walton as kick returner as a freshman but then moved away from him. Likewise the Dolphins had Nathan returning kicks his rookie season and maybe a little bit beyond that. He did a good job on punt returns of squeezing everything that was available but everyone could sense it wouldn't be a long term role.

Of course, Nathan was ultra dependable and Walton is the opposite of that. But on raw ability he certainly has a chance to make the final roster. I wish that 100/1 were actually available at some reputable joint. I don't think he will make it, simply because regimes are very loyal to their own draft picks. Edge to Gaskin. But Walton is probably closer to 2/1 or 5/2 than 100/1.
Thanks man. I appreciate the insight.

Man, I wish Nathan could have played longer with Marino. The fit with those two together just worked. If Shula would've got rid of Olivadotti and the defense would've been better. What could've been?:ponder:

Reading the posts on our UDFA have been exciting as much or more than our draft picks IMO. Interesting.

Loved Marino and Shula. When Marinio retired both our running game and defense improved alot.

It's not a perfect comparison but the best I could think of from a Dolphins perspective. Walton is more jittery than Nathan, who was big enough to remain inside while Walton is more comfortable bouncing outside.

Granted, this is based on the Canes career. I didn't follow Walton too much at Cincinnati. Backs tend to bulk up early in their NFL career so I expect Walton to look somewhat bigger and stronger in a Dolphins uniform than I remember him from Coral Gables

Well... for my 2 cents, I am going to say that this guy is as dumb as a rock, and a wannabe gang banger.
As such, I doubt if he'll change. Most of these guys cling to the lifestyle as if only weaklings dont behave like they do.
That said, if he lights it up (not his weed), he only has to beat out Gaskin and Laird for the job.
What makes you say he's a wannabe gang banger? Because he had a weapon in his car or because he had a small amount of weed? I've seen middle age suburban housewives who have carried a gun and who have used marijuana and I would have never drawn the conclusion that they were wannabe gang members. I'm not saying he has a track record of making good decisions, but I think sometimes we make an assumption that if a person is black and has a weapon that they're a thug. Al number of people carry a gun for different reasons.

If a suburban housewive with replacement level talent carried a gun and was caught with marijuana in their car, I wouldn't want them on the roster either. Put me on the list of someone not calling him a 'gang banger' but rather as someone who isn't real interesting in invested on a low ceiling guy with off the field issues.

From a football stand point I can go either way with the signing. He wasn't signed to a big guaranteed deal. The Dolphins are looking at a young mid round draft pick at little to no cost. If he flops it cost you nothing.

He is an uber long shot at best. I'm all for giving out second chances but 1) he'll have to get his charges reduced first and foremost. A gun and drug related charge will probably carry a few months of jail time. 2) he needs to make sure he is clean in life and has everything there in order and then 3) impress enough to out perform several other guys with far less baggage who want to play in the NFL also.

So odds to make the final cut have to be 100:1.
I'll lay 5 large on that

Do you condemn ranchers and country folk for carrying guns hanging in their window like this too? The law states, you can carry. But just the right way. He simply was carrying the wrong way.
A rancher needing a gun to protect livestock seems different to me than a guy carrying a gun who has an arrest record, and is going to a restaurant or bar

The idea that first of all, everyone with gun racks in their truck window is simply protecting livestock isnt true. Secondly, it is not illegal to carry a gun with an arrest record. Thirdly, these athletes are targets many times, they have money, they are in the spot light, god forbid one of them keeps protection while going to and from a restaurant!! THE HORROR!!
