PHOENIX - Patriots [team stats] running back Laurence Maroney [stats] had offseason shoulder surgery that revealed “fairly significant damage,” according to a league source, though the long-term impact is unclear.

Maroney felt shoulder pain down the stretch and in the playoffs that limited his ability to absorb contact. He underwent exploratory surgery that revealed more damage than anticipated, and corrective surgery was performed.

What do you Pats fans think about this? Do you guys feel Maroney is going to be fine come the season? Any worries about Morris starting the season as the number one RB?

Just questions... With any luck this won't end up in the Depths... :D

I heard on the radio he'll be ready for training camp.

not a big deal IMO...it could explain why he was so tentative running the ball in the PO's.

Correct. He was in pain so he was tentative with lowering his shoulder to take on tacklers but he should be good to go for the start of camp.

On the news front, running back Laurence Maroney underwent shoulder surgery after the AFC Championship Game. That Maroney underwent surgery was first reported by the Boston Herald, and has been confirmed. Maroney will naturally be limited in the team's offseason program, but the injury isn't expected to threaten his 2007 season.

I still wouldn't be shocked if the Pats picked up another RB in the later rounds, 3-7th. More than any other position, it's been proven time and time again that you can get great RB's on day two. A little ins. wouldn't hurt.

I wonder if he'll still be a little tentative for at least the begining of the year, I doubt he would want his shoulder to get busted up again.

I guess it depends how things go thru TC and preseason and how well the healing process goes but It is reasonable to expect him to be a little tentative as most players are coming back from surgery. I think playing second fiddle to Dillon hurt Maroney last season as i don't think he got enough carries to get into a rythm. If need be Morris can pick up the slack til Maroney is up to speed.

My guy will be fine for training camp and the season. :muck:

I'd love to see them pick up Brian Leonard FB from Rutgers with their #28 pick...hes projected as a early/mid 2nd rounder, but he can do it all and is definately a "Patriot-type" player. He could be a valuable backup to Maroney and the Pats also could use him as more of an H-back type ala Kleinsasser because he's also a good receiver out of the backfield.

If we picked him in the first I think I would cry lol. He's enough of a reach that if we really want him we should trade down into the second.

you may be right on that, its a bit of a reach, but no more than Logan Mankins was...lol. I'm sure Bill and Scott have more tricks up their sleeve and they'll probably select another tight end.

Or a defensive lineman. You can never have too many of those!

I like Leonard, but not at #28, there's going to be too much value at ILB, CB, and SS when the Pats pick 24 & 28. Depending how the draft falls they should be able to get impact players with both those picks. The problem with moving down is that your probably talking about a 2nd and a future pick in return, and if the value is there at a positon of need now, it wouldn't make alot of sense, unless of course they feel they can get the same type of player in the middle of round 2, and stock a future pick in the bank. Good RB's can be had on day two, it happens just about every year, maybe a Mike Bush in Round 3. If the Pats do use a 1st round pick on a RB, I would have to belive that Maroneys injury is worse than they are saying. In any case nothing would surprise me, the only thing I know for sure is that B.B. and Pioli, know alot more than I do.
