Why has this name not been brought up? He's a bigger, better, more polished version of Thomas. He's a FA and would not cost us a draft pick. I know he's looking to get paid, not sure about the $ numbers, and if Thomas is willing to restructure etc.. If Gases' offense is centered around the TE, why not go and get arguably a top 3 TE in the league? Not a huge fan of Thomas, though his downfall in Jacksonville could largely be because of Bortles, he's often injured too. Though I suppose Gase knows him better than anyone. Thoughts?

There's the answer. He had one of his best seasons, he's got a ring, and now he's going to turn it into a pay day.

Enough already with overpriced FA's.

Allocation of resources. He is going to be getting somewhere around $8 mil a year. While I don't know what Thomas's # will be after the restructuring, it's still going to be significant. We would be better off spending that $8 mil towards a couple of guards and resigning Sims.

How is Bennett a better version of Thomas? Thomas has 33 career TDs in 57 games played whereas Bennett has 30 TDs in 135 games.

Miami has a terrible unit when it comes to evaluating players. They've had many opportunities to upgrade their talent level but always come up short. There was no reason why Gase shouldn't have traded for this guy last year. He was also available a couple of years back. I just never get it with tis team, we had a GM from Tampa who had two chances to sign Leggeratte Blount but no respond Patsies picked him up and two rings later.. 2015 the patsies released offensive lineman Cameron Fleming. I thought Miami with their terrible Ol would've jumped on him but no. Not only did they signed him back but he ended up on the starting lineup. Am pretty sure he was better than Dallas Thomas.

JUST IN CASE YOU DONT KNOW MIAMI'S BIGGEST PROBLEM IS TALENT EVALUATION!!!!!!

Well i'm sure everyone can agree Petyon in those last few seasons throwing close to 50td's a year, where the redzone offense was centered around the TE makes it a lot easier than having Cutler throw to you, while their offense was centered around B Marshall and Jeffrey on the outside... I'm not saying that has everything to do with it, but i'll assume the vast majority of people think Bennet is far better than Thomas

Not happening. Nor should it.

Bennett played in Dallas for 4 years (Romo) and 1 year with the Giants (Manning). Yes he had 3 years with Cutler but it isn't as if he was in Chicago his entire career.

It has been brought up and talked a out plenty... especially in the Dion sims thread

People only look to the last season, and think the performance will carry on forever. Still remember laughing at all the love Cam Newton got around here for how he was one of the greatest! lol

Cam is a good QB. I wouldn't mind having him at the helm. Bennett is a good TE too. I don't necessarily consider him to be much better than Thomas though, especially not just b/c he had Brady throwing to him last year.

Sort of like why trade for Thomas instead of waiting for him to be cut? The answer to both is by trading a small value 7th round pick you can avoid competing with 31 other teams for a player's services in free agency. If it's a player you really want go ahead and make the trade, if you wait and try to win a bidding war too many things can go wrong. Also Thomas is younger, and I think most would agree if Bennett played in Jacksonville and Thomas played with Brady last season their numbers would be a lot different. I could only imagine what New England's offenses would have looked like last season, prior to Gronk's injury, with Thomas playing the role Aaron Hernandez once starred in.

I couldn't of said it any better!!!!!!!

Thomas and sims will be a nice pair of tight ends!
