Chargers | Schottenheimer would like Brees to return
Mon, 27 Feb 2006 Jim Trotter, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer said he would like all three quarterbacks - QBs Drew Brees, Philip Rivers and A.J. Feeley - to return to the team in 2006. Schottenheimer added that Brees would be the starter if he were healthy. "In my opinion, we're better off if Drew Brees is here," he said. "We've all come to realize that it takes more than one quality quarterback in this league to be successful. If he's able to recover from this injury - and I'm optimistic about that - I think it gives us an advantage."
 
means nothing...Marty Schottenheimer wants a lot of things, but he doesnt make the descions. Thats AJ Smith's job, and Smith likes Philip Rivers.
 
Screw Marty!!!!!!!!! Just because that's what he wants does not mean that's what he's gonna get. Brees will probably come to Miami. I just hope the shoulder heals OK.
 
its not marty's call..its aj's and isnt drew a fa now anyways or will be?
 
Yeah, Drew's contract is up. If the Chargers don't give him what he wants, I think he'll want out. I hope he comes and saves us (assuming he can still play like he did the last two years). Not that Gus did a horrible job at the end of the year or anything, but he's getting up there in age and we need someone who has the potential to take us to the SuperBowl and win!!!!!!!
 
It is easy to tell that Marty is a good guy...he really gets attached to players I think. Wasnt he saying the same thing about how he was upset that Cleo Lemon left also. IM really hoping that Brees signs here quickly. Do any of you have any idea on how quickly he will be signed. this isnt somthing you see in FA everyday
 
No clue. Just waiting for March 3rd to hear all the rumors then. Something should happen quickly after that....or at least it should.
 
Yeah, he was mad when AJ Smith traded Lemon. He wanted to keep him. Hopefully AJ Smith gets his way again this time and Brees is let go. :)

If Marty wants to coach Brees again, I believe Saban might have an assistant coach opening available. :lol:
 
They just need to hurry up and agree on a CBA so free agency can start. I'm starting to get a little ansy with all this extra time they have to think about keeping Brees.
