I read somewhere that Odrick's selection could be part of a master plan by Mike Nolan to construct a dominating hybrid defense.
Look at pick 40 to see if we are following this plan. If we pick Cody, then consider the following:
Odrick can fit into the DE Rotation on 1st and 2nd down. Cody can play NT on 1st and 2nd down and short yardage situations. On Third down and obvious passing situations, Cody comes off and Odrick slides inside (much like Starks did last year). Now Starks stays at End in this situation and you get some nice pass rush out of your base defense.
The above plan is great, provided we can secure the following three players in rounds 3-5 using 6,6,7,7,7 and Tyler Thigpen to move around and get these guys:
1. Chad Jones, FS
2. Ricky Sapp, OLB
3. Dennis Pitta, TE
That would work for me....
