So it's clear that Moore has been a major discussion point lately on these boards. I know I have done my fair share of debating about him. Can he be a franchise QB? Can he be a solid starter? How high is his ceiling? Will he crap the bed if given the starting job before the season starts? Can he win the big games?These are the questions we have been debating and there seems to be quite a bit of different thoughts on him. I think a lot of us agree about him more than we think we do, or at least don't completely disagree like appears sometimes. So I wanted to get a more accurate view of what we all think. So please help me understand what you guys think by answering the two questions. Fill in the blank.

1. Matt Moore has a ____ % chance of becoming an elite QB at some point....( could help us win a superbowl )
2. Matt Moore has a ____ % chance of being a solid starter at some point.... ( won't prevent us from a superbowl )

I'd say 15% and 65%. What do you guys think?
 
Ye sounds about right, he is a good B/UP so i hope we keep him for another two years................
 
Helping us win a SB is more on the FO than Moore. imo Moore isnt set up to win with this team. very few playmakers (bush and vontae i suppose),and a defense that still collapses in crunch time. As far as being a solid starter, I'll agree he has about a 60-65% chance.

IMO, he is what he is. A serviceable backup qb. Hes never held a starting job for a full season, due to injury or otherwise. I think hes a guy that.can fill in for a stretch of games when needed to, and thats about it. I think hes injury prone and has been since college. I dont see him being much more than what hes been the past five years.
 
0% of becoming elite.

IMO second question would better be: (will be able to get us to the Superbowl)...I would say that is around 10%.

2. 20% (only because Dilfer already proved that with enough team around you, almost any idiot can take someone to the SB)
 
Everyone, talks about Matt as a backup and seems to forget some of the leagues best QBs once played as a backup.
 
He is already a solid starter. He came in late and took over the team with very few practice reps. He then played better then most of the QBs we have had in the last 15-20 years.

Or perhaps we remember that 99.99% of backups never amount to anything other than backups or at best average starting QBs.

Which are the QBs that have had opportunities to start in 4 different seasons over 5 years and then became elite?

Drew Brees was not very good for a while and then became elite. Kurt Warner was not even drafted and was basically pulled from bagging groceries and then became elite. People in NY were calling for Eli's head for a while until he won a superbowl. Happens more than you think man. Lets not forgot that Aaron Rodgers was a back up for years. I'd say he turned out ok.
 
I don't think he can be "elite" but then again I don't Ryan, Schaub, Romo, Ponder will ever be elite either. I'd think the chances of him becoming a dependable top 13-14 league starter, if finally given the chance, is about 55% which is about 75% higher probability than Sanchez or Tebow. :idk:

Oh and I think he stands at least as much chance of either of the above happening as does Matt Flynn.

I pretty much agree with everything that you said. I'd put his chances of being a solid starter a little higher since one could argue that he was a solid starter last year. I think he was at least very close to a solid starter last year. Def agree that he beats out Tebow and Sanchez for sure
 
Run of the mill player, the type Jeff Ireland specializes in. Considerably more likely to regress than bloom.

I say that as someone who believes everything tends to drift back to the beginning. Several posts ago Drew Brees, Eli Manning and Aaron Rodgers were touted as quarterbacks who overcame rocky starts. Yeah, and they have a lot more in common with Mark Sanchez than Matt Moore. Sanchez as a premium first round pick is considerably more likely than journeyman Matt Moore to turn into something special. If you don't understand that you don't need to be speculating on anything. Any subjective slob can overreact to current form. It's the same mindset that insisted Tiger Woods would never win again.
