1. still spoke volumes how they felt about him , they preferred to have no veteran backup and was part of reason carolina was 2-14
2. still didnt beat a winning team
3.14 fumbles is still alot among worst of qb's
4. He has been with three teams Dallas, Carolina and us very defintion of the term journeyman'(actually not as awful a term as it sounds)
5. I agree contract has little to do with anything. I do think the constant qb visit speaks that we dont see him as our qb for more than this year
6.quite agree salary has little to do with anything except thier initial perception
7-Not sure he couldnt run wco offense although dont have alot of faith he will ever be as good or better than last year
8- I also agree why would he hold out. There is no option for him but to play noone will trade anything for him
9-dont see him as injury prone either
10-athletic enough, he did some solid things on move
11-I will answer people that say he is the same player as smith. No he's not Smith has kept his starting job and is in some demand while Moore needs to have another year like last to create any demand. hell we want to replace Moore with Smith so that should speak volumes.
That all being said Moore played as well as you could ever expect last year and he proved he is an nfl player I just dont think he is a long term starter in the nfl
Good points, and I guess we at least somewhat agree on the majority of it. But I'd like to respond to a few of them.
1. Being released, by any team at any time, has so many variables involved that I don't automatically chalk it up to the player's ability. Hell, wasn't Peyton Manning just released?! By know means am I comparing the two players or situations. I know the Panthers didn't have 25+ million dollars due to Matt. But contract status, coach status, money, injuries, draft staus, even worry about fan 'revolt' has alot to do with players getting released. It seemed to me at the time that the Panthers were going in another direction with two younger qb and the coaching staff.
2. I'm not a big fan of this, "he didn't beat a winning team" thing. I haven't looked it up but they say neither did Brady. The original guy said 'a team .500 OR better' so that's what I originally argued. Plus, I always thought .500 was considered a winning record. But when we beat the Chiefs they were 4-3, when we beat the Bills they were 5-4, when we beat the Jets they were 8-7. We beat some average to good teams at the time we played them.
3. Worse stat for him for sure, especially since he only played in 13 games. But lets consider that he didn't start the season as a starter, was in his first year with the team, and had a rookie center. A good rookie center, but a rookie still. I honestly agree though that a qb can't have that many fumbles.
4. Forgot that he was a Cowboy but did he ever play (or dress) for them? Not trying to split hairs with you just wondering. I agree with you that Journeyman is not as bad as some make it out to be, especially in today's NFL. But seriously he's played for two teams in the last 5 seasons.
In my mind they are very close to being the same qb overall. And when it's as close as it is, I default to the guy that is already on my team, not to mention he is cheaper. Even the fact that we're looking at Smith doesn't mean too much to me as far as Moore's abilities. Dolphins are scrambling to do something, with Ross and Ireland doing what they've been doing and trying to 'make a splash' instead of looking at things with a football mind.
I do think Moore can improve on last year actually, but no, he's not a long term starter.
