Looking down from the alumni box at Dolphin Stadium Sunday, A.J. Duhe liked what he saw of converted linebacker Matt Roth.

"The kid's got some big upside," Duhe said the next morning. "He plays with a pretty good motor."

Coming from an undersized defensive lineman whose own "motor" helped him make the same switch to linebacker and on to the Pro Bowl, that's saying something.

This is a Great Article and I love all the Attention Roth is getting. Seems like Pasaquoloni knew exactly what he was doing when he switch Ole TRex to LB. Roth was great on Sunday and this team has really done a great job in filling JTs shoes, really. I love you JT, but you are not missed.

I freakin' love it! AJ is one of my favorite Dolphins all-time. You never hear him mentioned that much. He was an absolute JET killer!! I had made a comparison between Roth and Duhe before. Good stuff! Thanks bro!!!

Thats high praise from an awesome player.

Ive liked Roths desire since we first got him. He reminded me of Zach when he first came into the league as a smallish LB and lit things up with sheer will alone.

Roth had his best game last week, lets hope we keep it up.

anyone else find it funny that the only compliment white players get in the front 7 is "good motor"

Matt Roth, Chris Long, Aaron Schobel, Justin Smith, etc. Seriously, all anyone ever says is they have a good motor.

Matt is a LB now, so he has to be playing effeciently enough the having a good motor is not the only thing that is keeping him on the field.

Man I loved AJ, and Roth does remind me a little of him. Just bigger and meaner!!!

Roth's emergence has been a tremendous part of our success this year.

It wasnt all that long ago we were writing him off :(

I'm happy to see him play like he is capable of playing. I might have to buy my kids some Roth jerseys along with all the Fasano jerseys they want lol. :) (5 boys lol)

i don't think race is a legitimate issue in this thread.

i haven't paid much attention to who describes what race of player with different adjectives.

Actually, that's not true. Kevin Greene always got alot of favorable press. ZT did too. Offerdahl got a great deal of praise, I dont' recall Klingbiel or Sochia getting the "Good motor" label.

True enough, certain adjectives are generally code for racial makeup, but, I don't think it's exclusively true.

Roth's "Motor" label was used even in college and, I'd say it was accurate, as it's probably his best attribute. I've heard Schobel get "Ferocious" and "Cat quick" before. Justin Smith the same way.

i never said it was an 'issue'. Its about lazy undescriptive people in the media, not about the color of the players skin.

Okay Joey Porter has a great motor(mouth that is). lol

I just hope Roth keeps the good playing

And, of course, gets some more sacks like the one against Phillip Rivers

I am really starting to like Roth and if Crowder can step it up he will be a better player as well.
