What happened to this guy last year? Did the departure of Saban have an impact on his performance last year?

Will he return to the player he was in 2006?

He got injured in training camp and it nagged him all season. I beleive it was a hammy injury. He did however, set new highs in tackles and sacks for his young career so I don't think Dick Satan mattered that much.

he was banged up pretty much all season but he's still another disappointing draft pick for us.
Add another one to the mix. We have had the worst stretch of drafting over the years it makes me sick.

I believe Roth said he strained/partially tore his groin muscle late in preseason but still tried to play with it. Roth missed three games because of it.

Um i don't even know where to begin. We all thought this was going to be his break out year but to tell you the truth from the way it's looked thus far he's better served as a backuip. He was a good switch in for Kevin Carter but when he is in the lineup full time he's not as much of a difference maker as one would like. Same for Channing Crowder....

I think Saban counted on getting Webster with that pick and when he was picked before Miami he wasn't prepared as bad as that may sound. Roth is not suited for DE. Short arms and he is not nearly quick enough. He should put on 30 lbs and move inside and be a stump in the middle. No way does he stay at DE with Parcells. BP likes tall BIG DE's that can hold their ground but also get after the QB. Roth is a stump that cannot seperate from tackles. They swallow him up! When we had JT on one side running to the sideline to get around the tackle and Roth getting eaten up that killed our DL. Teams ran right down our throat because we had no DE support. Center and guard tie up Traylor and now you are through the DL with a guard and FB leading the way into the LB's.

When Roth was hurt and we had Holliday and Wright at DE we actually played much better on D.

He was looking mighty good during the preseason, but then POOF!, fail forward fast happened. I'm taking the '07 season to court for an annulment.

As I remember Roth was one of the more vocal about his displeasure with Saban. I wouldn't think his departure would have negatively affected him in any way.

He set highs in tackles and sacks last year people. How can he be a disappontment playing through injuries and doing that?

The one thing I want to see this year is a good rotation of DL. IMO the patriots had one of the better OL in the league but as we all saw in the super bowl, the giants just wore them down by running talented fresh bodies at them the whole game

this thought process leads me to wanting Chris Long if we cant trade down

MIA has a bunch of undersized DE's if they intend to run the 3-4. Roth, Page, and even Holliday are a little light in the britches. A team that runs the 3-4 can have a 285-290lb DE on one side but not on both. That is aprt of the issues that we had with stopping the running game last year. Roth should be nothing more than a back-up to Holiday. We need a strongside DE to run the 3-4 effectively. Wright might be that guy but I would hope that we spend a draft pick on someone to compete with him.

Playing opposite to JT, he should have been way more productive. He needs some competition there, either a FA or a pick. If we can get a good FA, then Roth becomes a decent backup.

He did set highs for tackles, but his sacks were actually lower; only by one though.

Now, if we want to speak of production then that is typical of a 3-4 end. An end in this scheme won't get many sacks, he isn't supposed to. Its not like the 4-3 end where he is supposed to apply pressure and register sacks.
