first off i really like matt roth. watching him in college he looked ripped and pretty fast, In the senior bowl he was all over the place going through under and around everone i was thinking man this guy is going to be good. then we draft him and he puts on a fin jersey and imo he looks like a different player.
has he put on weight? he looks slow and weak, what is up do you think he is out of shape? or just not looking as good because he is going up agianst better players? has anyone else thought the same?

I don't understand this idea that he looks slow. He doesn't look like Dwight Freeney fast, but he was never Dwight Freeney fast. He is used a lot in short yard and goalline. That tells me he is the opposite of weak.

I think he has done fine, I don't think he has seen blocking and strength like the NFL provides in college, and I don't think he is used to the speed of the game yet, but give him a few games and I promise you you will be hearing the announcers calling his name alot.

I'd really like to see more of Roth before passing judgement. He's played in 2 games at the pro level and as of right now (and maybe forever) he's not an every down guy. Meaning, I've seen him for an extremely limited number of plays and therefore it's going to take a lot more time before I (and I would assume most people) can give an educated opinion on how he's doing regarding the college to pro transition and what his weaknesses are.

I don't really think he looks slow, and of course he doesn't look as great as he did at Iowa, but only time will tell for sure.

I dont think he is weak or slow, but he just does not look as good as he did a iowa.

I was pumped when we drafted him, but the only time I had seen him play was on TV. He looked like a monster in college....

Then, after seeing him at TC, I was very disappointed. He's small as hell, and he plays way to wreckless. He's got tons of growing to do, and if he doesn't get up to size, I doubt he even makes this team next year....

Looks like a wasted pick IMO....

PHINZ RULE!!!

haha I've always thought it was funny how some people see something in college and think it translates to NFL.
I mean, I do understand the reasoning. But logic has always dictated that what you do in college means ZERO as to what you'll do in the NFL.
College football is for all practical purposes, a different game then NFL football.
Coaches don't look at what they've done in college, but what they're capable of doing in the NFL.
I think Roth is still a rookie. But comparing what he did in college to what he's doing here in the NFL, well lets just say he's learning football again.

How can you not see that in college? He didn't have any moves? He just bull rushed everyone. However he was talented and relentless. Just needs to build NFL strength and get some moves. Not all rookies are going to come in and totally dominate their first year.

Ofcourse not, but Roth certainly looked like he would be a player capable of filling in some this year. After getting one look at him, and seeing how puny he is, I realized that was just a mirage...

He may come on strong next year, but he's got alot more growing to do than I think most fans were expecting. Myself included....

PHINZ RULE!!

I think he will develop in time. He definetly needs to add some kind of a "move". Just running at people is not going to cut it when you are a smaller player. To already say that he will not make the squad next year after two games to appraise him is excessive.

i said as soon as we drafted him "stand him up as a LB in either the 3-4 or 4-3, he's too small." people are starting to realize that now

What did Jason Taylor do the first couple years of his career? Give Roth some time.... Rookies need time to develop, what's with everyone around here passing judgements so quickly?

Someone in the media made an interesting comment about him during TC. They said becuase he has short arms(DE's usually have longer arms), that the best bet for him is to put on like 15-20 pounds and move inside. Maybe moving him to DT isn't such a bad idea. Still though, it is tough to call a second round pick a bust after only two regular season games.

i thought he looked small as well. funny thing is that his profile on NFL.com says hes 6-4 272. thats bigger than David Bowens. its the exact same size as winstrom or wiley.

i dont believe he is that big for a second
