What will Matt Roth end up being after all is said and done? BTW I know it is too soon to judge a player but I want to know what everyone "suspects" he will turn out to be.

wow that was a fast response, i just got done making it.

I think he will at some point and time be a pretty good player. Last week he made several good plays. He certainly has the attitude for success. My guess is look at Roth being a starter in a couple of years.

I voted for starting DE. I hope so but it's too early to tell. I think he will progress a lot going into next year when he will have had a year to adjust to the speed and strength of NFL players.

Based on what Ive seen so far, hes a backup. But that could change... he could be a starter OR he could be a waste.

Wasnt he geting some good pressure last week? I heard he flatened Gallery.

This is what his problem is. Hes too slow and gets shutdown too easily.

He will be a productive starting DE. Will he be the 2nd coming of Bruce Smith?..No...But he will be a steady performer. He's a lunchpail type of player and is exactly what Saban wanted when he drafted him. He is in development...He is adding bulk and working with the weight trainers while getting valuable playing time. Everything is on schedule for this guy. He was never meant to be a speed rusher but will eventually be a solid LE. He has shown good penetration at times from what I've seen, which isn't much because I only get to see highlights most of the time. In 2 years he will be one of the most beloved of all Phin players because he is that type of player who would play with a broken leg if Saban allowed it. He's listed at 6-4 272 and in a couple of years he will be closer to 285 and will be throwing guys around like rag dolls. Have patience grasshoppah's...:cap:

He'll be a solid starting DE in approximately 2 years. I think this is a learning and adjustment year, and he seems like the kind of guy that'll work on the areas he needs to improve.

Well, you've managed to explain what happens to a majority of rookies. You have no idea how different the level of play is from college to pro. Just the level of play from High School to college is unreal. It took me a full year to compensate for it to where I could even be competitive with the guys that had been there a few years.

Let the rookies develop, most do not turn the league on it's ear and some do struggle a little before adjusting and turning it on.

It's too early to pigeon hole Roth as too slow and easily shut down.

Gee should'nt they have known that before they drafted him???

In fairness, assessing which players will be able to keep the same level of play in the pros they had in college is no exact science. Every pick is an educated guess but a guess nonetheless.

I voted for starting LB. I think that when Saban drafted him, he knew he would not be used much this season. He will be a starting OLB in a 3-4 when we fully change over next season, or the season after.

Also, he should do the best against Gallery, he practiced against him everyday for 3 years. He should know his game.

Where did you play your college ball?
