"John Beck was completing passes like a madman against boston college!" In 2005 John Beck completed 41 passes against boston college. A school record.. 2006, John Beck loses to boston college and matt ryan. So, they are even in matchups between the two. Heres the good stuff....
What do you look for in a quarterback? A leader, and skills right? along with toughness and agility and all that jazz. Both of these quarterbacks have those qualities. The problem is, one of them likes to make ALOT of dumb mistakes.
MATT RYAN- To finish his career he ended with a win over michigan state. Winning the big game.. no better feeling.... you know the political talk non-sense. The problem is this.. during his last 6 games he threw 14 tds, and 13 ints. A franchise quarterback, the first pick in the draft, the man with all the intangibles, measurables, acculates you want. 13 ints in 6 games... During the season.. if you knock off bowling green, haha.. he was 27-19 touchdown to interception ratios. Plus the game he gets credit, and center stage for he threw 2 costly picks. On that final drive, he had all day to throw. no pressure. he just dink and dunk his way downfield. now how many times did he get lucky on that drive? everypass he threw was into tight coverage. Now, im sure this guy has all the tools to be great. yet, when has he shown a speckle of it? I cant name one time this guy did anything spectacular. He even struggled against michigan state. Plus, against notible powerhouses on defense during last season he threw more picks than touchdown. I.E. Florida State. Now look at John Beck...
John Beck- Strong Arm, Accurate, quick release, workout junkie, and a true leader. Brigham young student, that gave up football- his passion- for two years, while serving the lord. this guy has that it factor. a guy that in his first two preseason games lead the team to late drive victories. Dont get me wrong, preseason means nothing. If it did then cleo lemon would be the peyton manning of football players. This guy beat down oregon in his final game in college.. check the stats, game footage... A prime example of what a true 1st pick the draft should look like.
Now, some will say he's already too old.. well, we squashed that with the roger staughbach reference. Im sure there is other conclusions for the disliking of Johnny.. Now, where is everyone who thinks Matt Ryan i better than John Beck? Tell me why? give me some solid reasons why we should draft him. As in me, i mean every dolphin fan out there. I understand im not the one calling the shots on draft day, but i will make a bold prediction. If Matt Ryan is picked by us number one... He will be nothing more than a Kyle Boller in the game. A gun slinging quarterback, that takes chances where chances shouldnt be taken. yep he has all the tools!;) now show us fans some proof in the pudding..

John Beck will be a star

i dont know y this is even a topic. Parcells is not going 2 draft Ryan.

i keep hearing things from a certain fans saying that we should get matt ryan.. that he should be our quarterback of the future.. I want to know why? im tired, like i know alot of you are tired of the same ol' stuff with some of our fellow dolfans. So, why is Matt Ryan a better risk than John Beck?

Just because someone wants the 'Phins to take Ryan #1 doesn't automatically make them a John Beck "hater" (and this is from someone who hopes they don't take him #1).
i disagree, anyone who wants the fins to take matt ryan 1ST OVERALL, must think that Beck isnt the man. & its pretty stupid 2 to judge on 3 games with the great team we had last year

What nonsense.

This is one way to look at it. Matt Ryan Lover vs John Beck Hater.

Another way to look at it is....

The intelligent football realist vs. the emotional dreamer.

The realist understands that the QB is the most important position on the team, and John Beck and Josh McCown don't inspire a great deal of confidence in the most important position on the field. NOTHING that we've seen of Beck (unlike what Buffalo has seen with Trent Edwards) can lead us to think that Beck is THE MAN. The realist sees things the way they are.

The emotional dreamer has fallen in love with John Beck. There isn't any good reason for it, nothing on the field to justify it, but still the same, they love John Beck. They have more hope than sense. And, because of the affection they have bestowed on Beck, they take it personally when anyone suggests that Beck might not be the answer. These dreamers see things the way they hope they will be.

The emotional dreamer is a ******* who wants to spend 35 mil on an unproven QB who played mediocre at best last year struggling against the better defenses he faced and padding his stats against the weak ones. Matt Ryan is nothn more than a more mentally stable ryan leaf.....or heath shuler or tim couch, take your pick emotional dreamer! lets stick with wat we'v got and use the #1 pick on a less risky prospect.

Matt Ryan or John Beck??? Hmm... I see them as both being able to lead this team to where we want to go with the Parcells offensive system/mentallity. Now we have Beck already, so why would we waist the 1st pick & the money to get a guy that will probably not do any worse or better then Beck? Use the 1st pick on one of the Long boys or trade down if able.

they are both unproven commodities. I'm hoping we give Beck another season before condeming him, but to me the bottom line is the bottom line: the O line. Without more upgrades there, we will need Lo Booker taking direct snaps just to be able to advance the ball.

Some of the Ryan scouting reports talk about his great "intangibles" as giving him the ambiguous "IT Factor" as a pro QB. Well, that may or may not be so, but it's easy to argue that Beck's intangibles are as impressive as anyone's. Coupled with all his physical and mechanical attributes (aside from height) it's difficult to perceive what imbues Ryan and not Beck with the "It Factor." Me? I'd much rather dance with the girl I came with, thank you.

John Beck always gives 100%.

Hes smart in the pocket.

He knows when to make the throw.

He knows when to take off and is capable of doing so.

He is an upstanding kid and is not going to cause any off the field problems for your team.

I have a good feeling about him. I hope they give him a chance to start this season and not beat around the bush with him.
