Maurice Jones-Drew, if healthy, would be a huge help to the Dolphins running game. He's powerful, fast, scores alot of touchdowns and is a very fine short yardage back. Bring him in with 3 new o-linemen and this is a different offense. The question I have is does anyone know the extent of his foot injury? The GM for Jacksonville, David Caldwell, is allowing Jones-Drew to hit Free Agency, much like we did with Reggie last season. What do you guys think. He's only 28! Until I hear differently I'm ready to dump Thomas and bring him in to give us a 3 time Pro Bowl back to put some teeth into our running game.

Id rather have Ben Tate honestly. MJD got to much wear and tear...

Philbin would not bring him here for attitude reasons. Also sat out from a contract he had 2 years left on, and was almost completely front loaded. So he got his money and didnt want to work the rest of his contract. No thanks.

Not close to an option.

Knowshon Moreno, Donald Brown, and John Kuhn are the only backs I am interested in in FA. But none of them are long term options

Not clost to an option, why? Is he washed up at 28? Are the injuries overwhelming?

The Colts won't let Donald Brown go. I think they're getting the feeling that Richardson may be a mistake. I know that MJD had a down year last season but it could be that he needs a change of scenery. Put yourself in his shoes. He's playing with Henne, Jacksonville stinks and I believe he's unhappy with his contract. We need a back that matches his skill set. I was the OP on this thread and was hoping for some info regarding his health and the reasons that Jacksonville is willing to let him depart. We let Reggie Buch go and he tore it up in Detroit. Could the same happen with MJD and the Dolphins? If he is healthy and anywhere near the player he was as recently as 2011 he would be a perfect guy to sign. Moreno is a nice player but MJD has been to 3 pro bowls and has had a much bigger career. As I said earlier he's only 28. If you don't want him please provide some reasons.

Thanks Bompus!! I appreciate the info. That's what I was looking for. So even with a change of scenery like Reggie got with the Lions your feeling is that he's washed up and not worthy of replacing Danial Thomas? Too bad! The toughness that he has is what we need. So let's find our Marshawn Lynch!!!

I would sign MJD over Gillisee or Denial Thomas. They would all be role players anyways. We need to draft a 5-10 225 lb work horse.
MJD would definitely help us in a few games. He runs hard and can still take it to the house.

I would definitely take him for an appropriate amount of $$$. He has the power running ability we were desperately lacking last year. No more Daniel Thomas or Clay on 3rd and short or goal line situations please!

MJD actually came good towards the end of the season. He has been a major contributor on a bad team for a long time. The question is how much tread is left on the tires?
He will still have big $ expectations, and can still add value, but it could be prudent to find a lesser name with less mileage and bigger upside.

That's what I was thinking when I suggested making a run at MJD. We lacked a veteran back last year that could pass protect, get us those third and shorts and get us TDs on goal line situations. If we only got that out of him it would be great but something tells me his career could get reenergized in Miami. Stranger things have happened.
