I liked the catches that Maurice Mann made even though it was against the garbage stringers and IMO there should be a battle the last three preseason games between him Gilmore and Thompson for the last WR position
Two of those catches were big league stuff. I don't care who they were against. I think the kid has at the very least earned a more careful look in preseason.
He's 22 years old 6'2, runs a 4.37 40 and has been impressive thus far. He's also WAY cheaper to keep than Derrius. Saban and Linehan need to seriously consider keeping this guy on the 53 man roster.
5 reasons why he won't: Chambers, Booker, Boston, Welker, and Gilmore. And that's not even counting Thompson and Newson, who are both probably ahead of him.
He's played well, but this is the wrong team for a WR to try to crack, barring injuries.
I was impressed by the sideline TD catch he made.He looked like a pro keeping his feet inbounds. Also he seemed to have soft hands although Berlins soft passes might have had something to do with it.
But he is up against the numbers game.Another team might be interested in him
I hate seeing good, solid WRs going to the PS and then a team gets a WR injured and picks up our guy w/ potential. I thought Tolver should have been brought in off the PS his rookie year but NO, not with Wannstedt praising him but not promoting him. And now he's 2nd string on the Panthers team making good catches. He had better numbers than Kasim Osgood in college and you don't see SD putting him on the PS because they know he can contribute.
And how many WRs have we let go only to have them go on and have productive careers. Didn't we one time have David Patten? And I know there's more but I'm too hungry to think so I'll post later. Wanny is still p***ing me off!
Mann WILL make this 53 man roster or some other teams roster THIS season.
He reminds me of Lavereus Coles a lot and I think Nick Saban is a very smart
coach who knows talent when he sees it. Darrius Thompson is a big baby who needs coaches like Jerry Sullivan to constantly pat him on the back in order to produce. Nick Saban needs men to play on this team, something Darruis Thompson is not.
