hello my aqua oriented ones are you ready for some football ? i am but i must play the bad cop /dolphin fan today because reality is setting in and i fear that we may have a little trouble before we can see the light.
here is my concerns : we are losing players to our rivials like wanny giving up draft picks. does this formula = a losing season? certianly not , however i want to caution some characters here that with these losses dont become susicidal if we go 3- 13 or 4-12 .
my thinking is we may have to hit bottom before we make the big run and if truth be known i would rather get some top tier players at qb , wr , and te and get some good fashion olinemen to boot.
in all honsety we didnt do ourselves justice by wining meaningless games all it did was cost us a chace to get better.
the bottom line is we need fire power people and if we go 3 or 4 wins it will be better for us in terms of getting talent and i would rather sacrifice a little bit to get to the super bowl .
i would rather win all our game s but realisticly we are 2 more years away form thinking playoffs .

bro i understand ur theory, but as a true fan u can not sit here and tell me that you would rather see the team go with 3 or 4 wins next years instead of going to the super bowl? thats crazy if you ask me. i understand ur playing bad cop right now but even then saying we'll do that bad isn't even right. the dolphins didn't even lose that many with saban coaching this team. i want to see the team in the playoffs like the days of marino.

Anyone expecting playoffs this year is being way too idealistic. Yes, once in a while teams can make a run from being awful to making the playoffs like the Saints and Jets did, but as of now that isn't happening for Miami. Both teams answered their problems at QB, and solidified their O-lines, things we have yet to address. Who knows how we'll resolve the QB problem whether it be Carr, Green or a draft pick, or what we'll do to fix the o-line.

If all goes well I could see us having another completely mediocre 8-9 win season. But I'd expect to fall somewhere between 5-7 wins next year. Just too many problems right now.

Nicely said man...I believe any rational fan knows that the playoffs are probally far fetched next year...yes many people look at what Cam and the Front Office is doing to this team, and think we are headed in the right direction (I being one of them)...But loosing a bunch of players and bringing in young guys doesnt equal winning the following year...The problem is most people who post on this site are not rational Dolphin fans and will probally be dissapointed this upcoming season...

the saints got brees and bush who were huge in them turning it around.....but the jets had a sudden revival from a guy ppl had put off as someone who was cooked in chad pennington....who's to say that can;t happen here.......who's to say we dont draft a few studs and alabi steps up and our oline is above average.....our defense is better than both the jets and saints and if cam can do what his expertise is there is no reason we can't think playoffs.....i think a 60-40 chance of us getting there isnt idealistic.....

stay optimistic although every yr we get disappointed

Well, here is a RATIONAL Dolfan who knows the truth... Good points and not an impossibility. I few key moves and a little luck can take a team a long way from a bad season.

I know it sucks saying well wait 3 more years, it has been said in BUF alot lately, but Fin Fans you are rebuilding the coreect way finally, stockpiling draft picks and getting your corp players from youth. All you need to do is draft well, and the 1st year of this process is a success.

The view that you will see many take this year, is I do not care what the record is at the end of the season I want to see this team Improve week to week.

Next year will be the same more of the youth movement. Much like you are seeing in Buffalo.

Why is that.... Because your Front Office is trying to build a team to set it up for back to back to back runs, and not just One run.

All it takes to complete is what you are doing....

Create cap space..... Done that well
Get some extra picks..... Done that well
Bring in a couple FA..... Although I do not agree with the age of what you brought in I like most of the moves.
Finally Draft well...... Jury still out but we will see the end of April.

Exactly. I've been saying the same thing all off-season. Most people just can't accept losing now to become better in the future though. I'd rather have one or two really bad years and gain some high draft picks to build around than have to suffer through another five years of being a 9 or 10 win team that is good enough to make the playoffs and then get demolished in the first round and have an awful draft pick.

i wasn't saying the dolphins are making the superbowl or even the playoffs this year. I was saying i can never hope for the fins to go an entire season and only get 3-4 wins. i hated it the last year pornstache was here and even though the dolphins got ronnie brown in compensation for that horrible season it still sucks watching the dolphins lose ever single week.

completely unrelated... but you have the best avatar on this site.

First of all I never understand how some of you equate losing games to a step in the right direction. If you are talking about the fact it gives you earlier draft picks that is true, but Ive always felt the order you pick in dosent really matter. What counts is that when you do make a pick you select a good player. How satisfied is San Diego with that Leaf pick right now? How do you think the Lions feel about their selection of Harrington? Now ask yourself how well Miami did in selecting Marino in the late 1st round FOLLOWING A SUPER BOWL SEASON. The lions and cardinals seem to continually lose double digit games. Has this made it possible for them to win a title 2-3 years later. After reading this argument I dont know how you can subscribe to the "Lets lose 12 games a couple years and get high picks so we will become a dynasty". My theory is this; winning breeds winning and losing breeds losing. Winning games now with young players teaches them how to be winners. Now lets go make the playoffs this year.

Playoffs or bust. Call me irrational, call me an idiot, call me a homer. My life isn't guaranteed to last 5 minutes. Why look forward to the future when we're living in the now?

And to follow up...

Here is how we will make the playoffs this year.

1) Avoid injuries -- I know this is mostly luck and not within our control, but it is necessary to win, especially given our lack of depth on D.

2) Get a decent QB -- Do you guys realize we played 5-6 football vs a tough stretch of teams with JOEY HARRINGTON at QB. It was Culpepper that killed us starting out vs 4 teams we wouldve easily beaten playing the way we did after he was benched. Also we went 9-7 and won 6 straight with GUS, who is no stud himself. It took some time for that offense to get going under a new system but once they did that and Ricky returned we were as good as most playoff teams that year. That was our last two seasons and neither of those QBs were avg at best. This tells me we can instantly become at least a .500 team with a decent QB.

3) Get Ricky back-- RUN RICKY RUN. Face it, the guy is one of the best backs in the league. He was the catalyst in that run we made in 05'. With the R&R express back there our offense becomes alot more potent.

4) Get some guys who can cover out there at DB. Will Allen is solid. However, we still need to upgrade this area. I really like Darrelle Revis as a guy who can step in right away and start. He also returns kicks. I feel like Bell would be better as a backup at safety so both of those spots can use help. We also lack depth there and at LB. But, this D did play like the best in the league down the stretch. Don't forget they started out having some blown coverages and in the middle of the pack statistically. What they did the last 10 games was very impressive.

5) Make some touch ups on the OL and we should be ready to roll. The key is a good QB. That will make the line look much better and show you guys that these receivers are tough. Also Ricky coming back will improve the run game and as a result of that make the passing game better.

I really feel we can contend for a playoff spot. LETS GO

The Jets turnaround was the result of spending high draft picks on O-Linemen, something Miami hasn't done since Shula was coach. Pennington is a good QB; the knock on him is that he's injury prone. So long as he doesn't get injured, he's better than anyone Miami's had since Marino.

I'am not sure if i'am supposed to be speaking in the third person, but anyway if daunte and ricky come back healthy with the drafting of tedd ginn in the first we will be a playoff team.
