Mavs and Pacers swap Daniels and Croshere
Late Wednesday evening, the Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers agreed to trade Marquis Daniels and Austin Croshere. Daniels, after a promising rookie campaign after going undrafted, spent most of last season on the bench behind Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse. Drafting Maurice Ager with pick No. 26 sealed his fate, as they found a taker for Daniels' extravagant contract (he's owed around $26 million over the next four years). He's an athletic guard with plenty of explosion and ball-handling skill, but he lacks consistency and occasionally displays poor judgement on his shot selection. He should give the Pacers another scoring option in the backcourt and provide insurance in case the Pacers find a taker for Stephen Jackson.
Croshere parlayed a strong playoff performance in the 2001 playoffs into a ridiculous contract that is finally winding down this season. He can shoot the three and pull down the occasional rebound. He should mesh nicely with Dallas' offensive system as Dirk Nowitzki's primary back-up. He'll be asked to perform the duties Keith Van Horn did last season, who will likely be leaving the Mavericks this off-season. While Daniels is the more talented player of the two, the financial aspect of the trade tilts it in favor of the Mavericks.
I think the pacers may have gotten the better end of this deal
