It was brought to my attention that Max Starks will be a free agent from the Steelers. He's only 26 years old, He's 6'8" and 337 lbs which is huge!!! He has alot of talent and can become a franchise tackle for us. Thoughts?

He is ok, and nothing more. He could start for us if we decide to keep caey at LT

I've posted this in a few threads already, but Starks is an underachiever, he's not a franchise T by any stretch of the imagination. He has potential but hasn't been able to put it together. Both my brother and father are Steeler fans and they say he is a very frustrating player to watch and most resembles LJ Shelton. If Cowher and Co. couldn't get him focused and motivated, why would our coaches be any different?

I think after seeing what Sparano did with Dallas's Offensive Line, I think he can bring out Starks's full potential to be a good if not great RT. He will certainly come cheap and is worth at least taking a look at and giving him an oppurtunity to showcase his skills in Training Camp and maybe on the field for a year.

The thing is though, the Steelers are known for their tough OL's and their coaches have a history of getting the most out of their players. If Starks couldn't do it for them, there's little hope that he'll do it for us.

If he comes cheap and the FO feels they can get him to play up to his potential, great. But I don't think they will want LJ Shelton v2.0. They already stated that they want smart hardworking players.

Simply stated...YES...I'd like to see us take a run at him, he's better then anything we have, young and shown he can perform when motivated.

certainly better than anyone we have at RT. Hes only 26 so he can be coached into at the least a good starter.

Stay away from Starks. He was not that great this season for the Steelers. He is a backup at best.

I'll wait until Sparano justifies who we use our draft pick on by saying "we like his family" before i say he'll fail.

I think he has a good chance to succeed though. I mean he's in an organization that for once have a lot of good solid football people running it. Bill Parcells has been around the game long enough to know whats what, and he brought in people who he worked with which leads me to believe they too know whats what. You dont last as long in pro football as Parcells did without knowing the game, being able to evaluate staff and personnel, and you certainly dont turn organizations from "worst to first" by bringing over a bunch of clueless people.
