[h=2]The Miami Dolphins kept Byron Maxwell on the sidelines Thursday night against the Bengals and it appears that the decision will be in play at least another week.[/h]Talking with the media on Friday, head coach Adam Gase was asked about Maxwell and Gase was quick to tell media that Tony Lippett is the starter heading into the week five game against Tennessee.

Maxwell wasn’t only benched on Thursday night, he didn’t play a single play. Not on special teams, not on the defensive side of the ball, not at all. Maxwell wasn’t visually upset about the demotion and told reporters that it “doesn’t matter”.

In the video of Maxwell’s comments it was clear he wasn’t too thrilled but directed all questions regarding it towards the coaching staff.

Maxwell has been playing very poorly through the first three weeks. Whether Adam Gase is trying to send a message or realizes that even now it’s more important to get his younger players time on the field and experience.

Perhaps Gase is realizing that the 2016 season is not going to end with a run for the playoffs and that evaluating talent in preparation for the other four years he is under contract for is important. Or maybe he just wants the veterans to know that he doesn’t care how much money they make.

One thing looks to be a certainty and that is Maxwell is not likely to return in 2017 barring a big change the rest of the season. Maxwell has a high cap number in 2017 but it’s not guaranteed and the Dolphins would take a minimal cap hit of $3 million saving over $5.5 million.

I don't think maxwell cares. Now he gets paid and he won't have to worry about making tackles.

I never thought I'd say this, but I was actually somewhat impressed by Lippett. Maxwell deserves the bench.

Good. We need to go with the youth movement. Get them some experience

Lippett got away with definitely 1, maybe 2 PI calls and had a horrible attempt to tackle Green on the TD, but I though he did ok. He was working his ass off and had emotion, things we haven't seen from Maxwell. Howard hung with Green most of the night. Yes, Green had a monster night, but Howard stayed with him. Since we are going nowhere this year, let the 2 of them get the work. I would rather have 53 young guys who care and work their asses off than 53 veterans that don't give a ****.

I would of keep all pro cb we had brent grimes. another bad moves. why do we keep trading w eagles...

Lippett looked better than maxwell has all year

The bar is low when people are impressed with Lippett. Where's the gif of that walk in TD by Green?

What a magnificent trade. Bet the Eagles are really missing their "starters".

Wonder how their defense is holding up . . .

#1 scoring defense currently in the NFL

Dude, Grimes is done and not having his big mouth wife around was worth getting rid of them both. As for Maxwell, he does suck too and we have to take the 3mill cap hit and get rid of him. Nothing but a loser

Ozzy rules!!

"It doesn't matter". Great quote. Summarizes the attitude in which he plays. He's getting paid either way so he doesn't care.

Byron "it doesn't matter" Maxwell.

ALONSO has been way better than Sheppard did last season the deal with the Eagles is still very good, plus maxwell won't be a significant money matter with the contract he signed.

I prefer 100 times Howard/ Lippet than Grimes/maxwell. Good job so far Adam

Lippet had some nice coverage on some plays just needs to learn to turn his head and needs to learn to tackle
