just might be able to lead us to the playoffs. Now, don't get me wrong, I DEFINITELY want a new bonified starter in Miami so we can be successful for years to come. But, with the draft situation the way it is we may not make a move on a QB to start this year. I think besides his horrible accuracy at times, Gus is OK enough to lead us to the Playoffs. His accuracy pissed me off quite a few times last season. Besides that though I don't see him making horrible reads like Fiedler used to. He knows the system well. I wouldn't mind giving him next year because I think we can do some damage. I love the tools he has around him. The Oline will get better making Ronnie even more effective. Again, I am not a Gus lover, I just think this team with him as the starter can definitely get to the playoffs and once you are in the playoffs anything can happen. What do you guys think? Can Gus do a better job next season?

Gus threw alot of balls away. He was asked to, that is why he remained the starter. He did what was asked. Now was he accurate all the time? Of course not, he made some stinkers. But this team was a wreck when he got here. No one puts that into the equation. Saban does. The second half of the season showed he can improve when everyone else improves.

The idea is to draft your future and maybe by mid season, through injury or whatever, you get to see your future. The idea here shouldnt be that Gus sucks yadda yadda yadda, but to groom the guy who will take us to the dance.

when everything fells down and no other options are there, i wouldn´t mind gus another year, he knows all the tendencies of our WR and TE now, so the offense should click right from the start @ TC

If he could go 9-7 with the team we had last year.....

The team, with another mini-camp and training camp under Saban will most certainly be better....

With another year of free-agency and the draft to add better players.....

I think that if Frerotte plays the same as last year, we will be 11-5 just bacause of the improvement in other areas on the team....

That said, I still want someone much younger to develop for the future.

Stay With Gus

If we have yet another QB controversy or new starting QB it will only cause more problems. Last year Gus was not horrible. I see him improving with the guys here and under a great coach like Saban. Go with Gus man.

well and keep in mind that alot of his misfires could be attributed to timing with the receivers

he wasn't even the #1 QB in TC and in preseason i don't think? so that means he was taking alot of snaps with the 2nd and 3rd team...right up till he was named starter.

towards the end of the year the timing got better, granted he is still inaccurate at times, but we saw alot of improvement IMO

I think we could definitely go to the playoffs with Gus. We almost did this year, we just had some bad playcalling in the wrong times (4 passes on the goalline). He did fine. I would guess his QB rating to go up around 5 or 6 points next year just for the fact now he knows the players and has more chemistry.

he still sucks. not going to the playoffs with the 28th ranked QB.

and plus he isn't getting younger. no way he becomes better.

See, I have been holding my breath. All I saw of him comes mostly from the highlight tapes that Nubes and Terrytate and a few others put together, but I saw him make some very impressive plays actually. I think he has kindve gotten the raw deal since being here. Not every team can have a ProBowl calibur QB, and I think he, because of the supporting cast can be a Playoff and even championship QB.
That being said, if a very good prospect is available in the draft at 16 (Perhaps Cutler) than take him. Otherwise take BPA at another spot we need.

Gus could take us to the playoffs as our qb, but i don't think we'd get very far...

and the only way that we'd make the playoffs with him as our qb.. is if Ronnie B got 30 + touches a game.

I doubt Gus can be any better for us than he was last year. He is what he is...a career backup who when he has started has been inconsistent and inaccurate. He's given us all he's got. That might be enough to get us into the playoffs provided Saban can make enough moves to improve the overall team. He'll never take us to the AFC championship game or super bowl though...

Gus has made the probowl before so he IS capable. We did see improvement over the season. He's not as bad as some may suggest. It's just that the bar here has been set sooo high by some guy named Dan?? We're spoiled. But Gus can be a solid QB and with a year under him, who knows. With that being said, we do need a prospect and I'm sure we'll find one this year or next.

Unless the QB is outstanding he's going to be the subject of much debate and ire on any team. Even if teams are winning and the QB isn't doing anything 'showy', he'll still get a lot of abuse.

I think some of this has gone against Gus Frerotte. I mean, none of us thinks (as far as I know) he's among the best QBs in the league but what option does Miami currently have? If you trust the team management, it's probably best just to support (I mean that literally in terms of showing support for him) who they've chosen for the time being. Sure, I don't imagine I'm in the minority wishing someone more effective could be found but whining and complaining about who plays QB for Miami at the moment doesn't help anything. The team management and Gus Frerotte don't try to lose games for Miami, know a lot more about football than pretty much any of us (if not all of us) and are doing what they feel is best for the Miami Dolphins (well, I'm sure they really do what is best for them individually but that's probably the same thing as it makes them large salaries).

If Ronnie and Ricky are in the backfield this year, it really doesn't matter who is starting at QB. I would stick with Gus if the running game stays intact.
