maybe our next LB

I doubt he will play LB in the 3-4, id rather draft a guy in the 1st that is meant to play 3-4 OLB then him changing positions

This came up last off season...Could Williams make the transition to SOLB?? I don't know.

Remember, he would have to still go out in coverage...it's not like he would be playing on the weak side...

Still, again, if we could get him cheap, than I say give him a shot.

We play a 3-4, he doesn't want to play in a 3-4. So that alone should tell you this probably won't happen. Not to mention his name still carries more value than he is probably worth. He really wasn't that great when he was making the pro-bowl every year, and he's lost a step since then.

I've thought for a while now that he'd make a much better linebacker than safety if put in the right situation, but I don't really see how well he would fit with us.

Another position transition pipedream? Why do people think a guy who has been backpedalling his entire career can suddenly start playing downhill?

Roy Williams is not a linebacker. Linebackers actually need to be able to tackle. His idea of tackling is laying an armless shot on the ball carrier only to watch him bounce off for a huge gain. NO.

I'd rather get a proven LB ..

If he came here as an OLB .. well:

He'd have to constantly take on 300 pound offensive linemen.

He'd have to blitz a lot.

He'd have to contain the outside.

And he would have to gain about 20 pounds.

..Can he do all this on a consistent basis? If so .. is he good at it? Probably not. Not good enough to beat out Porter, Roth, or Anderson. His only fair spot to take would be Wake's but I'm not seeing anything that Williams would do better than the 6'3 260 pound LB that runs a 4.5 and has a 46 inch vertical

Maybe Zach will come back and we can move him to safety? :p

Really though, it doesn't seem that he'd want to be a part of the 3-4. As a linebacker in a 3-4, he's probably too small in my opinion.

Roy Williams might make a decent LB in say our nickle package. Someone we bring in on passing downs to cover RBs and TEs or blitz.

I wouldnt be opposed to bringing him in on an affordable deal to be a situational player.

But we all know the odds of him agreeing to these circumstances are slim to none.
