Which we've seen from his 4 years as WR and QB at Texas A&M and 2.5 years at Miami with a sieve of an OL in 2013:

Durability, and similarly, knowing how to take a hit.

When you talk about his upside and potential for a franchise QB, this is HUGE.

So many good QBs in NFL spend significant time either out or playing through injuries. So far, RT has shown incredibly impressive durability. If he develops into an elite QB, this factor will be the one that pays the most dividends. Here's to his continue health!

Tannehill's best attribute is that he is a pocket passer who can run like a scrambling QB, and not vice versa. Even this deep in his career he is still learning how to be a better QB, which is bad and good... bad because he is behind the learning curve but good because that means he is still improving and we haven't seen his ceiling.

I more than anyone, other than WV, have had my doubts about Tannehill but his play this year has shown that he is still evolving and will continue to.

I think we should draft a new deep passing QB this year to make sure to push Ryan to continue to develop and as a contingency plan.

if the best quality that your qb has is durability than you probably don't have a very good qb

Dan Marino was rarely hurt. Durability is something most guru's include in there list of qualities for a franchise QB.

Aaron Rogers mentioned durability the other day when asked about his stats and records that projected towards catching the Mannings and Bradys of the world. Even though he didnt play his first 3 years.

Next year is a big year since it will be the last year of his contract.

Agreed, when RT threw two Int's vs. GB in the first half I tore my Tannehill jersey off and threw it upstairs. Thats when he got good in second half. I have started not wearing my jersey lately. Its working somewhat.
But he is still learning the many different facets while staying disciplined in the pocket, which alot of young QB's are being taught to run run run instead of waiting for play to develope.

I always remind people that Peyton Manning was good coming out, but he didnt become great unitl year 7. Monday night game vs. Tampa where they were down like 20 something points and came back and tore them up. He became Dan Marino and saw the big picture of how you can screw with a good defense's mind.

Harry, if you were writing the paychecks for the most elite QBs in the league, you might feel differently.

Let's assume a QB is elite franchise, so that he has proven to have enough of the great tools. Now think from the standpoint of a coach, GM, or owner. If I am prioritizing the following attributes, what am I going to be most concerned (or pleased) about in my franchise QB:

accuracy, intelligence, competitiveness, arm strength, instincts, speed, durability.

I'd bet 95% of owners would pick the last if you said you could pick one of these where your QB would be tops in the NFL. In the NFL, durability is everything.

Saying that might be his best attribute in no way means he cant or wont have the other tools- only that it might be his best attribute- and that's a damn good thing cause if he aint playing, and 100%, the other stuff may not matter.

good: durability, never complain or whine or mope, awesome passing on the run, very good play action fake, ability to make all the throws, pre-snap reading (at least, last year for sure, right?), keeps improving every game;

bad: average/bad pocket presence, very inconsistent, not good/bad deep thrower, not quick enough in thinking during the action (he seems not to be good at improvise)

so, a mixed bag. for me, the main point is if he keep improving or not. if he does, I am with him; he if doesn't, than we have to search again. that's the reason I was so scared at the beginning of the season, beacuse he actually seemed regressing! but likely it was just the new offense and now he is again improving, that the reason I still have faith in him (I don't believe that the only road for a QB is to be a star from day 1, I think there are players that just need some time and experience on the job and RT, with his level of playing - average maybe but he is not losing game for us - he is buying himself enough time to became a good QB. Just my op

I wish he had more of a pocket presence with escapability Ala Rothlisberger, or Rodgers. I would love to see that facet develop.

Hopefully Dan can impart some of that on him. Dan wasn't very mobile, but he had exceptional "feel" inside a collapsing pocket.
