i know since nearly the start of the season we've been discussing who we'd get at the end of this year in free agency or through trades. wouldn't it be amazing if we actually develop our draft picks from this past year and progress as a real team? i know its a scary thought since we've been screwed for so long, but look at some of these rookies (merling, langford, bess, henne, donald thomas etc) our secondary has even looked pretty stellar at times, particularly last game. we're way under the cap and our squad is looking great. its a great time to be a fin fan guys. we could implode has the season progresses, of course, but for the first time in a long time, we have options fellas!

I agree that we have hope for the future, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. We still have a ton of holes to fill in this roster, which have been concealed so far because we've only had one injury through five weeks. We have zero depth at offensive tackle or nose tackle. We also need to upgrade at least two or three wide receivers, probably three players in the secondary, a linebacker or two, a tight end, our third quarterback, and maybe our third running back. You're not going to be able to address all 12 to 14 of those needs through another draft -- even if it's as good as we appear to have had this year.

My God we suck!

I'm happy with Fasano and MArtin at TE, both have played very well this season. All the other positions you mentioned I agree with though. Secondary is our most pressing need IMO, Allen is a very good CB but he's gettin up there in years and other than him we have average players at best(at CB). In a PERFECT world we could snag Roy Williams and Asomugha in FA(I know it won't happen) but in the draft I think they should go WR or CB in the 1st two rounds. I'm sure they'll just go BPA however and we could end up with a young stud LB or DT which would be more than OK with me too...... Only thing I'm pretty sure we won't see drafted in the 1st couple of rounds are QB, HB, and OT(assuming they re-sign Carey)

Offensive Tackle is VERY concerning . . I would say we have 2 of the top 25 tackles in the league on our team right now . . . that is amazing . . . but god forbid one of them goes down and not to mention Carey is in a contract year. No question the depth needs to be addressed, and when u have 2 studs like we have, we can gamble on draft picks and hope they develop into players we can count on if injury occurs.

Definitely the secondary needs a looking into . . . I'm hearing this good news about Jason Allen (who if develops like he can, could be a great CB . . . or safety . . . or something), but Will Allen is in a contract year . . . and Lehan and Goodman, lets face it, they are both better suited for nickel and dime rolls . . . they aren't starter material, tho they can start if need be. We MUST draft a CB first day . . . Davis would be amazing but regardless we need a first day CB. To my knowledge we only have 3 safeties also . . . . so that also needs addressing, as both Bell and Hill are pushing 30 or maybe already 30 . . . and Crocker . . . lol.

LB seemed to be a HUGE need before the season . . . but these guys have stepped up . . .especially Mr. Roth and Mr. Crowder. Akin we knew would be a starter on this team, we didn't know how good he would play, he has played great. And JP, well he is still a beast, just in the wrong system last year . . . however not much depth after that . . . just Torbor and Anderson . . . there is a good chance our first pick in the draft will address the LB position . . . OLB or MLB . . . more than likely MLB as I'm not sure if we will resign Channing and Roth is also in a contract year I believe. . . but Selvie, Rey Rey, Lauranitis and company will be on the watch list for 2009 . . . LB will be I'm guessing minimum 2 picks this draft.

Nose Tackle . . . I haven't seen much of Solai . . . we need a NT prospect . . . it is CRITICAL . . . I dunno if Starks will be molded into one, but he seems better suited as a DE. Fergy is playing young, but you gotta figure age will catch up eventually . . . he is probably good for this year and next year, but for 2010, we better have someone ready to go. BP will find his guy this draft.

WR - I think this is where we may look after FA's or even a trade . . . but not no first rounder . . . if Detroit wants to give us Roy for a 2nd and a late rounder . . . we need to do that. I'm not sold on us drafting a WR, but I guess we gotta see who is available. This needs to be addressed tho, as its a weak spot on the team, and we could use a big name to take some pressure off of Ginn . . . I like Camarillo in the slot . . . I'm not sold on Bess, never was, but I'm glad he is making plays for the team and I hope he continues to improve for the better of the team. I'm pretty much given up on Wilford and Hagan.

These are the 5 areas that need the most upgrading and addressing.
