Needs Analysis: The Dolphins signed David Garrard, hoping he is healthy enough to compete with Matt Moore for a starting spot. New offensive coordinator Mike Sherman might still try to convince general manager Jeff Ireland to select his quarterback the past two years at Texas A&M, Ryan Tannehill. The trade of Brandon Marshall to Chicago for two third-round picks makes finding a playmaking receiver a major need. The team could bring back veteran Marc Colombo for a second season at right tackle, but might choose to draft a young replacement instead. The team's reported change to a 4-3 scheme for the 2012 season creates a need for some true hand-down defensive ends to play across from (and spell) Cameron Wake. New defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle might also want linebackers to fit his scheme. Releasing leading tackler Yeremiah Bell either opens up a safety spot for veteran free-agent acquisition Richard Marshall or leads the team to address the position in the draft

WATCH
Round 1, Pick 8 (8)Ryan TannehillQB6'4"221Texas A&M87.0
Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "I have him rated as the 19th best player in the draft, which tells you I don't think he's ready to be a heavy contributor this year. I watched every throw he made on tape this year. All the out-breaking routes are phenomenal. Where he gets in trouble are the in-breaking routes where he stares the receiver down, pats the ball and throws interceptions."
Round 2, Pick 10 (42)Jonathan MartinOT6'5"312Stanford87.0
Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "First-round talent right here, tremendous arm length. I call him a little bit of a finesse player. Doesn't mean he's not tough, but he's so good with his feet and understands angles. I believe the Dolphins just got themselves a starter on either the right or left side."
Round 3, Pick 9 (72)Olivier VernonDE6'2"261Miami82.0
Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "Out of all the underclassmen that came out this year, and I didn't think many should have, Vernon is one that I banged the table for. He's a solid 4-3 defensive end who can get edge pressure on the quarterback."
Round 3, Pick 15 (78) (From Chargers)Michael EgnewTE6'5"252Missouri71.5
Pick Analysis: Mayock's take: "When you think Missouri tight end, you think freakish athlete who doesn't block. Well, this is true again. He can really run, and he's a natural hands catcher."
Round 4, Pick 2 (97) (From Colts through 49ers)Lamar MillerRB5'11"212Miami84.5
Pick Analysis: Bucky Brooks' take: Miller gives the Dolphins a home run threat in the backfield. He is explosive with the ball in his hands and displays outstanding burst when running on the perimeter. Miller needs to show better toughness in pass protection, but could develop into a dynamic weapon as a situational playmaker.
Round 5, Pick 20 (155) (From Titans)Josh KadduLB6'3"239Oregon68.5
Pick Analysis: Bucky Brooks' take: Kaddu is an athletic linebacker with speed and quickness. He excels in a "run and chase" scheme that allows him to use his speed to harass running backs at the second level.
Round 6, Pick 13 (183) (From Chargers)B.J. CunninghamWR6'1"211Michigan St.73.5
Pick Analysis: Bucky Brooks' take: Cunningham is an underrated pass catcher with skills. He is a good route runner with savvy and quickness and could make immediate contributions as a third or fourth receiver.
Round 7, Pick 8 (215)Kheeston RandallDT6'4"293Texas64.5
Pick Analysis: Bucky Brooks' take: Randall was once touted as an early-round prospect, but a disappointing final season leveled his draft stock. However, he possesses the size and strength to emerge as a quality interior defender as a pro.
Round 7, Pick 20 (227) (From Titans)Rishard MatthewsWR6'0"212Nevada73.5
Pick Analysis: Bucky Brooks' take: Matthews is a productive pass catcher with sneaky skills. He could outplay his draft status quickly in Miami.

Yep...the Phinz had an outstanding draft, it's about time :-)

Gotta agree with the analysis. Very, very solid draft

Good to see. I also have high hopes for Derek Moye. He is a big wr w/ good hands and could possibly be turned into a TE. Anyway looks like we got a good draft all around.

The 2 grades/analysis I was most pleased/surprised with were Vernon and Matthews,

Vernon I did not know much about and I think was the pick that made some people say "huh" but i felt a lot better after seeing "Out of all the underclassmen that came out this year, and I didn't think many should have, Vernon is one that I banged the table for."

Matthews, i asked around on twitter and got back some responses saying Matthews could be the better pick than B.J. Cunningham soon enough just like it says "Matthews is a productive pass catcher with sneaky skills. He could outplay his draft status quickly in Miami."

Aside from this article, the every where I check, Jeff Fuller, Tannehills go to guy seems to be a great signing and a steal as an UDFA, hope he makes the team

Seems to me Wallace,Moore,Pruitt's days are numbered

I think Randle could be a steal in the 7th. Obviously he is going to be fighting an uphill battle, and may be a practice squad guy....but I really like his ability and versatility. I havent seen him play enough to make a significant judgement, but Slimm had him pretty high on his DT ratings.

Miami Dolphins
It was no surprise that the Dolphins snapped up quarterback Ryan Tannehill with the eighth overall pick. Their subsequent picks also made sense, as they attempted to support the former Texas A&M signal-caller throughout the rest of the draft. Receivers B.J. Cunningham (Michigan State, sixth) and Rishard Matthews (Nevada, seventh) were excellent late-round picks who will contribute right away with Brandon Marshall shipped off to Chicago. Tight end Michael Egnew (Missouri, third) gives Tannehill legitimate receiving help he would have lacked. Running back Lamar Miller is a home-run hitter who can open up a defense, and solid offensive tackle Jonathan Martin could allow John Jerry to stay at guard, forming a strong front five.

The team also met defensive needs by securing a strong run-stuffer tackle in Kheeston Randall (Texas, seventh) and strong-side linebacker in Josh Kaddu (Oregon, fifth).

I hope so .... i dont see them as WCO type WR but BJ and matthews do and fuller i like but might just be there to help tannehill progress more then anything

From all the websites I have frequented in an attempt to gain info on some of the late round draft picks the common theme is underrated and has potential. 1) Cunningham is said to be a very good fit for the WCO with great hands and good route running skills, especially on slants. 2) Kaddo is said to be a good fit for the 4-3 defense, who could use to add weight and strength. He is also said to have starting potential down the road with run and chase ability. 3) Randle had a better season as a junior and is a versatile D-Lineman who may be a bit stiff, but offers good run support ability. Randle is a sleeper who offers 3 and 5 technique capabilities and could figure into the rotation. 4) Matthews is a terrific late round possibility with great route running and sure hands, he is another good fit for the WCO. Philbin is said to have compared him favorably to GB Packers WR Jones. 5) Fuller is a guy I figured Miami had their eye on due to the A&M connection. He played much better as a junior than in his senior year which was marred by an assortment of leg and ankle injuries. The knock on Fuller is his lack of concentration and drops way too many catchable balls. I saw this 1st hand last season having watched numerous A&M games. If he ever gets healthy and returns back to his junior form, which is possible in Miami, Fuller could be the steal in the mold of what O-GUN was back during the Wanny Era.
