McDaniel Has Managed To Fail Upwards And Earned A Promotion!

Only a single media outlet has reported the Dolphins are “expected” to retain McDaniel. That is the NFL network and their only source is what he said yesterday. Ross made it clear that the next GM would decide our coaching staff’s fate, not him, months ago.

If they wanted to be clear about his future, a simple released statement from Ross is all it would take. That has not happened because the next GM still has a say on the staff.

It’s wild how fast people overreact in these threads. We have basically no information outside of McDaniel being allowed to be a PART of the interview process. For all we know, that means he has to interview with each GM.
By Ross NOT firing McMoron, he has made a loud and clear statement that he wants him to stay! Now will he turn that decision over to the new GM? He might, but I doubt it, as the new GM likely will be relegated to player personnel with Brandon Shore the main head of the operation. I think they will hire someone that is a McMoron apologist (aka the 3 San Fran candidates). These are just my thoughts. We will see what the reality is.

I am getting really tired of this bullshit. How is it possible that the fans and casuals can see the issue with this and the owner/C-Suite cannot? Retaining McDaniel is a huge mistake. Allowing him to be part of the GM search is an outright crime. This is beyond disheartening.

This is a coach who cannot beat a winning team. A coach who cannot motivate and lead men. A coach who cannot get his team out of the locker room ready to play.

His third quarter stats alone are something that should make dolphins fans want to jump off a bridge:

Key Stats for the 2025 Season (through Week 16)
A -86 point differential is abysmal. That's not the only issue. Play calling, timeouts, delay of games, 3rd and 4th down conversions. Everything is awful.

The Dolphins from week 11-17 converting on 3rd & 2 or less have converted 15% of opportunities (2/13). The next lowest is the Commanders at 36%.

The point is Mike McDaniel is horrible and getting worse. He has been on a constant decline each year and showing he just is not the answer. When someone shows up and wins in the beginning and then falls off completely it tells you that either this person inherited a better situation and has made it worse with their own decisions or this person came in with a little spark and was figured out quickly and cannot adjust.

I guess its time to prepare for another pathetic season and another skewed GM hire done incorrectly. Cheers to another regime of failure.

Not only he is being retained, McDaniel got a promotion.

You read that right. See quote below. If McDaniel is involved in the GM search, he is being given more power. Not only does he not deserve a voice in the process, him being in the room makes it impossible to even have a proper process. How do GM candidates voice concern over who the head coach is and how the team has been built? How does a candidate say they want to do it an entirely different way with McDaniel in the room? How does a candidate say they want the right to fire McDaniel if they so choose and go a different direction at any point in time? Will the good GM candidates even interview here or take the interviews seriously with McDaniel being given this role and the power over the HC's job not being granted to the GM? Setting it up this way also seemingly implies McDaniel is their boss, not the other way around, which it should be.

Only Ross could do something so dumb. There is no way in hell McDaniel should be part of the process, let alone still have a job, not even close. Aikman being involved is a red herring. He clearly could not stop this from happening, and he will only be one voice in a room full of bozo's. If Aikman is smart, he should resign from the committee rather than being associated with this mess.

AWFUL! BOHICA!

"McDaniel revealed he would be part of the search for a new general manager."

Does "part of the process" mean he will be in the room during interviews? I'm not sure and hope not for all the reasons you lay out.

I also think it's possible he was offered some vague token commitment that he will have input, but in practice his input will be limited and virtual. If Ross was in the room when McDaniel said that, did anyone catch an eye roll?

Just hope this doesn't cause a GM candidate have to like Coach McDaniels aka from SF, instead of a better GM candidate from another team. :ffic:
I would be more worried about someone moving his family from one coast to another. You can bet if married, the wife is going to have a say it that move.

I hope and want to replace McD, but I won’t be surprised if he is allowed to stay another season. IMHO he is our biggest weakness (and I supported him) and hasn’t shown he can excel under the pressure of big moments. Stefanski is interesting and Harbaugh would be a no brainer.
I really think miami feels like a there are only a few upgrades to mcdaniel. I don't think ross wants another first time head coach and he rather keep mcdaniel then do that again. I think they are just telling mcdaniel to wait it out and if someone like harbaugh is available then they will go with him. And mcdaniel is wanting a job and letting them do that.

I know a lot of people mentioned stefanski like you have. I watch a lot of the browns because I live in pittsburgh. I don't see the appeal with him. He made playoffs twice. He had last place schedule both times he did it. I would not be excited about that hire personally.

Still doesn't absolve McDaniel of the terrible game-day coaching and preparation. That wasn't Grier doing it. I bet about 90% of the fanbase wants him gone, yet Ross won't give the fans what they want. This team is a fukin disaster all because of his stupid ass moves and lack of actual football knowledge. He has NO BALLS to do the right thing. We're screwed until he's gone...
I don't disagree with you at all. I'm ready to move on from him too. Just hanging on to a sliver of hope that things are moving in the right direction. Getting rid of Grier was #1, Tua #2.

so you are saying mcdaniel is on the search committee for GM so they can interview him? did i read that right?

Yep i been saying that is a big factor in landing coaches Wives need to be happy. Saban wife didn’t like south Florida it was reported. The other harbaugh wanted to stay on west coast if coaching nfl teams it was said.
