I don't understand why McIntosh will likely be disrespected for a second straight year. The guy has been healthy for two years and has been actually quite good at left tackle for two years. He's been pretty consistent in run blocking and pretty consistent at pass protection. He's not Orlando Pace, but he was worlds better than high-priced free agent L.J. Shelton.

Last year, we were lucky to get McIntosh back. This year, I'm not sure we will be so lucky. It just seems like he is consistently undervalued by the staff when he has been pretty reliable. I would love to see what a healthy Culpepper can do behind a line that blocks - Culpepper certainly holds on to the ball too long, but he also had an ineffective line - Shelton was playing poorly and Bennie Anderson was playing period, making things worse.

I'd also like to keep McKinney, as he improved substantially in 2005 and would've been a 16-game starter had be been healthy last year. He's not as important as McIntosh, though, since we don't seem to have a reliable replacement for him.

I don't think there is anyone who doesn't appreciate the job McIntosh did in the final half of last year. I think it would be a mistake for the Dolphins to count on LJ Shelton as an adequate replacement. However, McIntosh is on the market now, and if some other team gives a ridiculous deal out of need, I wouldn't match it. Teams are always looking for upgrades, and while McInstosh is a servicable left tackle, he's not the anchor at LT that we've been searching for. He will be hard to replace with a limited pool of LTs in this years draft and in free agency, but that doesn't mean we should overpay for him.

McIntosh is a stop-gap solution. He's not fantastic by any stretch and would be better off as an injury replacement. We signed him in 2004 and was terrible, to say the least. Yeah, Hudson "The Incredible" Houck has helped him out, but he is not a permanent fixture on this line.

Unfortunately, he is a victom of the system. He is a solid player, but not solid enough to nail down the starting position. The fact that he allowed himself to hit the 350lb range also hurt his value.

He is probably more valuable to us if he can land on with another team...and then the Dolphins could receive a draft pick (compensatory) next year.

This is sad because DMac really wants to play for Miami and he would be a good depth player for us.

Every time there was a flag on offense, there was a 75% chance it was a false start by him.

Like some here have said...he is a serviceable LT, that's it. When you consider that Joey was told by the staff to "take 3 steps and dump the ball" on passing downs, it doesn't speak well for the OL and LT is the anchor of that line. McKinney has not done a very good job for us going back to the Wanny days. We've been trying to upgrade the C/RT spot for years. Hadnot is serviceable as well, but not great, just better than what we've had.

We have serious problems on the OL that need to be addressed. Big Mac isn't really the answer, but he may have to be. Unfortunately, it'll cost us more than what he's really worth now...

Your right about this. As for a stop gap, I think when we signed him we thought he could be the type of player for us that we could have on the roster for years to come because he was good in SD. However, his first year here he was like a revolving door. Since, his play has leveled out and gotten better but we know what we have in him which is an averahe to slightly above average LT. He is far from the answer we need at LT.

McIntosh has been decent. However, I don't see how you can see that McKinney has ever been halfway decent.

Mkinney has been here far too long. And has spent the past few seasons on IR. He really isnt that good at all.

This is true, but we don't have anything better right now. Not on the team, not in FA .... and probably not in the first round of the draft (unless things change). Unless we get lucky w/ a later round pick, just who is going to play LT??

Please not Shelton!! McIntosh is middle of the road, but he's at least decent. We could do much worse (Shelton!). As such, I'm shocked they are about to let him walk!! Unless RandyCam has something up their sleeves that will be an ultimate improvement, I think it's a horrible move!! I mean, especially if - say - Brady Quinn is stating next year. Just who is going to protect the rookie's blind side????? With Macintosh, you'd at least know he'd be safe most of the time. W/ Shelton, it was like - and would continue to be like - a welcome mat.

McKinney certainly did not start his career well, but the last year and a half that he played (the second half of 2004 and then 2005) he showed marked improvement. Particularly, there seemed to be a big improvement with both McKinney and McIntosh wih Houck's coaching. I don't believe much in position coaching except for the offensive line, oddly enough.

Like I said, I don't mind McKinney being released because Hadnot is doing a pretty good job and I don't like switching positions. Basically, shuffling the offensive line causes problems even if the players are good. An all-star offensive line that's playing together for a few games will be outperformed by an average unit that's been together for a long time (such as Cincinnati's).

A lot of good points have been raised - he's not an all star and he does seem to have penalty problems. However, he was much better than L.J. Shelton and has been decent - especially compared to what we had in 2003 and 2004 (McIntosh did significantly better than whatever turnstile we had at LT when he played).

This in my opinion is the biggest problem. We have absolutely no replacement outside of Shelton. Shelton is a problem for two big reasons - one, it causes two positions on the offensive line to change which always causes problems, and two, he played pretty poorly at left tackle last year.

Exactly. Part of the problem early last year was the lack of line continuity from the end of '05 when the line was playing very well.

Unless you can add - say - a Kalil in the draft at Center, or sign a Dielman at guard, we should certainly consider keeping at least the other three in tact.

Carey is fine at RT, and Shelton played well at RG. Keep D.Mac at LT. Then, if you can upgrade Center and LG, do so!! That leaves only two uncertain positions that could somewhat easily be upgraded.

Booting D.Mac and moving Shelton to LT could cause possibly four "new" players on the line short of Carey. That is much harder to upgrade!
