McIntosh Will Have a BIG Effect

In your biased opinion. Smith while not great has been a very solid & steady player.

Why want anyone answer me on whos job Moore is suppose to take? Yet people want to bash him for not playing.
Greenwood's? Greenwood was a #3 (also a mistake by the way) and Moore was a #2. Hell, Derrick Pope looks better than Moore, and Pope is a 7th.

And Smith gets beaten routinely by above average DEs. If that's the case, you'd better be a Larry Allen blocking for the run, and Smith is a horrible run blocker.

Just Wade?

I really hope that you are right about our LT issues. And, I think your argument of the lack of enthusiasm with the rest of the line has some credit.

But really, let's face it, Larry Beightol was a much better OL coach than Tony Wise (isn't he coaching Green Bay with a 1000 yard rusher now?). We have had BAD personnel decisions with Wanny (gave up too much for both Smith and Whitley). McKinney? It was obvious last year he wasn't panning out because he couldn't beat out Ruddy. We haven't drafted a legitimate OL starter since Todd Wade. We really needed a true, awesome right guard, something we haven't had since, or Roy Foster?! (Correct me if I'm wrong, and don't even hint that Kevin Donnelly played well in Miami). These are bad decisions by the head coach folks. And he has made plenty of them.

I have been a Wanny supporter from the day he was hired until last December. Everyone and their mother knew a change was necessary at the head position. As long as he is here, he will make poor decisions - in the same way Wade Phillips did as a head coach.

Greenwood was also a No. 3 that was traded for at the cost of a No. 2.
Greenwood has been solid. Not every player need to be a superstar.

Where people get drafted has no bearing on how good they can actually be.
Looks like people missed the boat on Pope, like they did with Zach.

I think better coaching makes Smith a better player. The whole line looks horrid. They have no idea who to block. That is coaching.

But no matter how good Moore and Smith end up being, they were still reaches on draft day. You don't get guys in the 3rd round that you can get in the 5th. Zach and Pope are steals -- that's what you want.

We agree on this.

The worst decision DW has made in his tenure here is building an entire TEAM strategy (offense AND defense) around having a good running game, and then not making DAMN sure he had a good offensive line.

For the past four years these guys have been trying to replicate what they did in Dallas, and they seem to be forgetting that those Dallas teams had one of the best offensive lines of ALL TIME.

isnt that your coaches name and your teams philosophy -- i dont think jills fans have any right to be toting opinions on this board.

Jeno has looked shaky. Is it that Wises scheme and technique is poor? We were blocking good till dave fired the Oline coach that went to carolina...who got a lot out of them to get to the SB...and had Jeno playing like a stud. Wise comes here and we suck? ANd Jeno sucks? Same deal with special teams, wanny brings in friend and we are not the same caliber there either...Is it the talen or the coaching? I dont know line play so I have no idea.

We could see a BIG turnaround from this team this year. Long post, but read on.
This is from a Dave Hyde story in the 9/21 Sun-Sentinel:
If this is true, then we could see a collective surge of effort and intensity by the offense when McIntosh is inserted. If everyone on the offense knows that Smith can't play a lick, then everyone on the offense probably plays with less effort and intensity because they know that even their best efforts will be undermined by Smith's poor play.
Think about it this way -- if you're in a tug-of-war with 5 guys on your team going against 5 other guys, and you know that one of your own guys is VERY weak, you'll probably pull harder at first to compensate for the weak guy on your team. But if at some point you realize that you CAN'T compensate for the weak guy, and he's not getting any stronger, what are you gonna do? Probably quit -- and that's what the offense may be doing. I'm not saying they're making up their minds to quit, but that they're mentally and physically fatiguing from trying to compensate for Smith.
This could've been happening LAST year as well. The line sure looked a LOT better in Ricky's first year compared to last year, and the only difference was Smith. I know we've bashed Ruddy, Perry, and Nails a lot, but what if they just gave up because they knew that even if they blocked their best on any given play, Smith's poor play would make the play break down? What if Ricky "ran softer" (as the O linemen said last year) because he knew that even if he ran his best, Smith's poor blocking would let defenders swallow him up?
If the offense IS doing this, and if they believe McIntosh is significantly better than Smith (can't imagine they don't), then we could see this offense turn things around pretty quick. If the other 4 guys in the tug-of-war had quit, then they may start pulling hard again when the weak guy is replaced.
And you can generalize this to the whole offense (not just the line), and maybe to the defense too. Even the defense may be quitting because they know the offense can't help the team with Smith out there. After all, the whole team is on the same side in the "tug-of-war" against other teams.
Comments?

Ok, for the record....I didn't see any newfound collective surge of effort and intensity. Our line continued to suck.
