"That's how things go," left tackle Damion McIntosh said. "He'll get picked up soon. In the right system he'll be fine. He's one of the guys that we thought was going to war with us and he's not here, so it caught us all off guard."
This is the one thing that's disturbed me about all the recent cuts and pick-ups. You want a certain sense of esprit de corps (team spirit), and if your roster is constantly shuffling I think it detracts from that. I think that's part of the reason Washington has done so poorly the past few years even though they've been so active in signing big-named free agents.

Oh come on.

A backup DT and our dime and 5th corner? The impact is minimal.

Then why did McIntosh bother to talk about it? There's something to be said about the effect of going all the way through camp with a guy and then taking the field with him in the regular season. The feeling the players get from that may be worth a lot more than improving a backup guard a half-notch.

The timing is probably due to league roster cuts, but it does send a nice subtle message that this team is not a country club or place for job security. If you want it, you gotta go get it or someone else will take it away from you.

The feeling they better get is, I better play my butt off out here. It looks like anybody on this team can be replaced.

Because a reporter asked the question

And Mcintosh is probably one of the most open/nicest OL on the team according to Jeff Darlington of the PBP. So he gave his honest opinion, but make no mistake about it, These players have been given plenty of chances in an open competition and some players stepped up while others faltered.

Bottom line is all of these players must understand that unlike wanny, if they don't perform and their salary doesn't match their production, they will get cut.

I wouldn't worry about comraderie, these players know and understand that this is a business and their job first and foremost and winning makes everything better.

Every year there are the annual "suprise cuts" and the two teams notorious for making such moves, happen to be NE and philly. So I wouldn't get bent out of shape over a 2nd string underperforming OL and 4th string camp fodder. When the two aforementioned team release perenial pro bowlers for nothing.

The roster turnover is to be expected at this early stage of Sabans tenure and it can't be helped if we want to be a power-house again...I would expect that our team will be run much like NE's and I don't have any problem with that.

Umm... because a reporter stuck a microphone in his face and asked him how he felt about St. Clair being cut?

I think this is a team that is still trying to find its identity. Saban is trying to find the right combination of players. It's a process that will take a couple of seasons.

Its a business...as long as DM's check doesn't bounce on the 15th, he'll be fine. Just another reporter sticking a mic in someones face and calling it a story.

I second these comments.

I'm seeing a lot of defensiveness with regard to Saban's moves across the board on this site. Is it possible that the guy is doing SOMEthing wrong? Or do we just need to feel like we have such a vast improvement over Wannstedt that EVERY move Saban makes MUST be good?

Saban will build his own team--and it will be good--so forget all the sentiments--in Saban we trust, yeah---they will be a team with spirit--Patience my friend
