McMichael could face charges soon
The News
The district attorney in Georgia where tight end Randy McMichael was recently involved in a domestic dispute with his wife told the Miami Herald he plans to pursue charges quickly in the case. "One of my assistant district attorneys came by last week and…I got the impression that on its facts, [McMichael] would be accused and would be prosecuted," Augusta Judicial Circuit District Attorney Danny Craig said. He added that McMichael will likely be arraigned in August and could go to trial as soon as September, although the D.A. said he would consider a continuance of the proceedings if McMichael's attorney requested one.
Our View
The incident reportedly occurred at a Waffle House in Georgia, where witnesses say McMichael shouted profanities at his wife, Cawanna, before the two went outside to McMichael's car. There, they continued arguing and McMichael grabbed her and moved her aside several times before accidentally giving her a bloody nose. In any case, the NFL will not act to suspend or fine McMichael until his legal situation is resolved, which very well could come after the season, should his lawyer request a continuance of the case. The distraction caused by yet another off-the-field incident is enough for us to bump McMike down a couple of spots in our tight end rankings.
