I've heard it quite a few times today on the radio that Randy may have been in the NFL substance abuse program due to his last incident with his wife and that there is a possibility that if he tests positive for anything(alcohol included), he'll have to serve a 4 game suspension.

Due to confidentiality of the program, we wouldn't necessarily know whether he has tested positive for anything on the last incident, but we would know this time, if it's a second positive test.

Again, due to the private nature of the program, there is no way to know for sure that he was even in it but, it would have been standard procedure supposedly, for him to be put in the program following the incident last year.

Who knows, just speculation right now but, just thought you guys might want to hear about it anyway....

how is it mcmike coould get four for only his second offense and ricky didnt get four games until his third...?

I'm pretty sure that Ricky got 4 for his second....he skipped out on his third and retired for the year instead of facing the possible year suspension.

Uhh... last time I checked, you dont take drug tests for alcohol, you take breathalyzers. He refused to take the one the police asked for.

I know that but, I'm sure that drinking alcohol is not part of the substance abuse program. That's why I added that.

The real point is, we wouldn't know if he tested positive for drugs last time. If they test him and he tests and he tests positive this time, like I said it could be his second positive.

They dont drug test you for getting into altercaltions for your wife. The only way it would be drug related is if the cops found anything, then we'd have known about it.

The league does test for alcohol and the Cub or Commissioner can already fine Randy for one game and/or suspend him for 4 games for conduct detrimental to Club. What opened my eyes is that under the Conduct Policy the Commissioner could banish McMichael from the league if found guilty of this offense.

That's a good point. But all of this is still very troubling news from a football standpoit if any of it is true. On the human side, if he's in the program, it is because he obviously needs that structure.

There's something wrong in that article....It says that he would get 4 games for a third violation

I'm looking for the actual program guidelines but i came across this blurb about Onterrio Smith that backs me.....
(Onterio)Smith was suspended last season for four games after testing positive for marijuana. It was his second ``strike'' in the NFL's substance-abuse program. He would earn a yearlong suspension for a third violation.

They drug test you anytime they want when you are in the substance abuse program...., and especially after an altercation such as this.

It doesn't have anything to do with the cops finding anything or not.

The confusion as I understand it with the program is the nature of that first offense. I think if you come into the league clean, you are on this track:

1st offense: enrollment in the program
2nd offense: 4 game fine
3rd offense: 4 game suspension
4th offense: 1 year suspension

If you come in under the program, it's:

1st offense: 4 game fine
2nd offense: 4 game suspension
3rd offense: 1 year suspension

That has been my understanding of it.
