McMichael working with Houck

I was going to start a thread about this, but I just wanted to say that I have seriously changed my mind about Randy McMichael.

I've always known he was good. And, I was prepared for him to have a blowout year this year in preparation for getting that nice big payday.

I also openly advocated franchising him after the season was done and trading him for a 2nd or 1st round pick after he has such a visible breakout Antonio Gates type year.

Now, I just want to get this guy under contract. I never thought he would be this much of a complete tight end. Houck truly must be a genius to get him to block as well as he has been blocking.

McMichael has been, without a doubt, our biggest offensive playmaker bar none.

Against the Broncos, he made plays. He caught a touchdown. The Broncos didn't have an answer for him. Against the Jets, he was just about the ONLY guy making plays (and honestly how many times did we see that last year? I know I saw it a lot). And, against the Panthers, he caught a touchdown, and made plays with his blocking. That nifty little 58 yard run for Ronnie Brown? Who busted open the hole for that one on the backside? That was McMichael. That, to me, was good as a touchdown catch. If Ronnie hadn't pulled a hamstring it would have been a 97 yard score. They sat on the sidelines and talked about what could happen on that particular play if McMichael sealed the backside with a devastating block. They sat there TALKING about it, and then when the time came, they EXECUTED it. HE executed it, made that devastating block, and there goes Ronnie into the secondary one on one against Mike Minter, blowing him up and then running past him.

I had no idea a tight end could be this valuable to a team. He's going to want a lot of money for the patience he has shown with regards to his contract. And, he deserves it.

Also don't forget that he has leadership qualities and he always says the right thing. I think that is amazing that in his entire career I have yet to read an interview were I felt like saying "Just shut up McMichael". It shows a level of intelligence and character. He is a great team player as well. Once he signs a long contract I am definately going to get me a McMichael's jersey.

its about time you guys start to see the error of your ways. i think randy is without a doubt the best te that the dolphins have ever had at least in my opinion. Randy is the heart and soul of this offense so i dont have problem with him getting 50% of the passes now if we can get diamond 15% more passes then we will have a tremendous offense.
with randy and diamond at te i hope we will see more 2 te sets.

I've always felt his leadership qualities were too forced and awkward.

But, now I just kind of step back and say, well, at least SOMEONE is actually TRYING to step up and be a leader...even if it comes off as awkward at times (and downright ironic given his wife troubles). Even if it isn't quite natural for the prankster, at least he's intelligent enough to realize what will get him the big money on the market (read: leadership, saying all the right things, etc.). At least he's stepping up and trying to be a leader on an offense that is devoid of leaders.

I hope he avoids more off the field problems. Sorry to add this but he will probably be suspended sometime this year by the NFL because of his guilty plead. I just hope it's not a game where he will surely be missed...

He does need some marriage or anger management counseling, but as a player he has been our best player on the TEAM so far this year. He does deserve a big contract. I would just put an 'out' in it depending on the counseling he gets.

Randy has really stepped it up this year, and is a stand-up guy for honoring his contract. We have the money to pay him, lets do it!

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid the previous regime was. Tony Wise (inappropriately named...should have been "Tony Dumb") never took the time to help McMike with his blocking??? A tight end IS part of the offensive line, just happens to be one that can legally catch the ball. So, instead of helping Randy learn blocking assignments, which would help the running game, and help protect the QB (which we desperately needed), Dave and Tony felt it was more important to have him practice special teams. Its truly a wonder we ever won a game.

I had the benefit of watching Randy dominate SEC teams here "Between the Hedges" and when he got drafted by the Phins, I knew we got a gem. From knowing him personally, I will say that he is dealing with his off the field issues, and I don't expect any more problems. It's time for the Phins to make him an offer he can't refuse.

If there's one thing Wanny did well in, it's drafting McMike, the steal of the draft and that pick came via the Ricky trade. And with the Fins well under the salary cap next year, they should definitely resign him. As long as McMike keeps the off the field issues to a minimum, he's a must keep player.

As much as I hate to hear Shannon Sharpe talk, I love when he starts to talk about Randy...he gets so excited.

Randy McMichael = key to our offense

Remember that interview where he went off at the reporter for asking him if he was going to hold out for a new contract? That was ****ing awesome.

They will re-sign him this year. I'm sure they will use some, or all, of our $3M plus in remaining cap space for this season to take care of it.
