Looking over the stats of past SD gms this year, all of the top or "name" TEs they've faced had good games.
NYG Shockey & TE pos= 7 rec, 106 yds
PHI L.Smith & TE pos= 7 rec, 67 yds
KC Gonzalez & TE pos= 7 rec, 115, 1 TD

I included "& TE pos" because I believe it's an indicator of how the middle of the field was opened for the 2nd string TEs. So maybe Diamond will get opportunities.

Look at the tackles for SD so far:
D.Edwards(LB) = 112
R.Godfrey(LB) = 55
T.Kiel(SS) = 50
S.Merriman(LB) = 39
S.Foley(LB) = 30

Donnie is really the only one we have to worry about in terms of coverage. It's almost as if he's the only one out there making plays (I know Merriman has 7 sacks so relax). I don't think Edwards amassed all of those stops covering the TE pos exclusively. IMO they use him to help stop the run & cover the backs. So if anyone else on the above list is left one on one with Randy I love our chances. Anyway he's due to have a breakout.
Thoughts?

i agree, i almost brought up this topic earlier this week, i do believe we need to utalize not just the tightends put the deep middle of the feild and short routes in the game, and then just out of random send one deep...

Looking at their LB's and saying Edwards is the only one we have to worry about is like them saying Zach is the only one they have to worry about

But as we have all seen Crowder, Pope, and spragan call all play LB very well, dont under estimate them based on stats, I for one know randall godfrey is a great LB regardless of stats.

If we can run the ball McMichael can have a field day against them though with play action passes and so on, if you look at all those teams yes they have good TE's but they also have a solid running game

I'd love to see McMichael have a big day, with all the hype around San Diego's offense people seem to have forgotten we've got a couple of weapons too.

A Dub Deuce, maybe I worded it wrong but Edwards IMO is their only playmaker LB save the rookie Merriman of course. If they use Kiel to cover McMike that leaves only one deep safety. We have to take advantage of the one on ones. Believe me I felt the same way about Godfrey before, but his best years are behind him... now watch this comes back to haunt me(crosses fingers). Anyway the opportunities will be there.

Dont forget Foley and you heard here first--dont overlook a guy named S.Phillips #95:-)

mcmichael should have a big game knowing the chargers will be focused on to stop cc

our recieving corp as a whole should have a good game.

SD is great against the run, but horrible against the pass.

I mean c'mon their best DB is Bwou Jue

I agree Godfrey's best days may be behind him but I think he is still a good linebacker

I agree the plays will be there but a lot more so if we find a way to run the ball
