This reminds me of the disdain on the part of the complacent "Big 3" automakers in the 70's towards those upstart Japanese small car importers... that is until the late 70's gas shortage coupled with the shoddy quality of cars like the Aspen changed all the conventional thinking and rules.
off topic- i drove my aspen for 185 thousand miles and made the trip from witchita ks to dc 2 times a year for 4 years. Once I ran out of oil, the engine locked up, smoke bellowed from the engine and i was stranded on the side of the road. I added oil for kicks- started it up and it went for another 30 thousand miles (without an oil change)
It died the day my wife ran a stop sign and a car coming from the other direction plowed into her. (she was fine)
She called and the first thing i asked was- is the car alirght.
Needless to say, that was my first wife
I read that earlier and I thought it was kind of offensive but I took it in and looked at the bigger picture. It's rich, it's funny but I think it's the perfect analogy. We're playing unorthodox formations and teams can't adjust to an offense that hasn't been used in the pros over 50 years or so and teams just don't have an answer for it and once we implement a few more plays add a couple new moves in the Dolphins offense will be about as deadly as it's ever been. We're fighting with grit and shame from last year on our shoulders. I think all the Dolphins players know that this franchise is among the winningest franchises all time in the NFL and they want to win for us fans more than ever after they laid the egg that was our entire 07 season and they have a real coach to back them up (and teach them how to win consistently) now. Things can only get better as the season goes on.
I dont think you guys read the entire article.. two key things;
Everyone now realizes that Miami is a few steps away from being real contenders in the NFL. The modified "Wildcat" offense was a good start, but now people have to respect their all-around game.
Dismissing the Dolphins as a one-trick pony is dangerous.
While the little brother analogy serves as my frame of reference, the fact remains that this is a professional football team with the NFL's all-time leader in completion percentage in Chad Pennington and a very good receiving tight-end in Anthony Fasano.
Add the explosive Ronnie Brown and his efforts worthy of Offensive Player of the Year honors, and the Miami Dolphins are no longer a joke in the NFL.
A few more years and before you know it, that little brother is going to hit puberty, grow taller than you, and start dating the pretty girls at school.
