Im not one that wants Williams to leave but if he does....meet the new duo. Ronnie Brown and Sammy Morris.

Despite 2004 being a terrible season in Dolphins history, Sammy Morris showed he could cut it in the NFL as a starter. In 132 attempts behind a horrid O-line Morris gained 523 yards. Thats an average of 4.0 yards per carry. He found the endzone 7 times, 6 were rushing.

His skills out of the backfield were good, he caught 22 balls for 124 yards and like stated above he had a receiving touchdown.

The even better news is that Sammy Morris is a full back by trade and Ronnie is of course a running back. That sets us up for so many more plays that we couldnt get with Ricky and Ronnie. Morris could line up in the FB position instead of having split backs that was much hoped for with the R+R express.

Theres also the case that #31 is cheap. Cant be bad to have a runner thats cheap, ok so is Ricky but Williams might want more cash - and Morris is younger.

The thing is Morris could leave when March 3rd comes around. Nick needs to decide what he wants to do with Sammy and im sure he is doing that. So, what do you think Fins fans, are you, or would you, look forward to the R&S express?

He'd better put on some weight if he's going to be in a lead blocking role. He weighs only 215.

Yep, that would not work. I will be curious to see if that kid Eckel gets out of the Navy what he can do at FB, a lot of teams were high on this kid.

I like Sammy Morris definately as a change of pace back to give Ronnie some rests...But Sammy's nowhere near as big as he should be to lead the way for Ronnie...which is what we REALLY need him to do. I like him though. Definately showed that he's pretty good in 2004.

me too. Keep ricky. Although I do agree if a bidding war raises the value of ricky, I think sammy would step in just fine. He proved to me he's a good back.

Sammy Morris is a bad lead blocker. There is a reason why after we dumped Heath Evans, the Sammy Morris fullback experiment lasted all of three or four short gains in the Saints game.

Odds are if *anyone* has the ability to lead block, it's Ronnie himself.

Nothing against Sammy- he's a decent player and all- but he isn't even close to being in the same class as RW.

But that was with 13 games, 8 of them starts. So even if one assumes that he made no yards in the 5 games he didn't start, that still only averages out to 1046 yards if he had started all 16 games.

Not really. You're just trading one set of options (split back) for another (RB/FB).

Yes, and there's a reason why he's cheap.

On the other hand he might not or at least, might not want more cash than what it's worth. And even if he does, it won't be this year.

Actually... Morris was born 03/23/1977, Williams 05/21/1977.

If it's our best option, sure. But substituting Sammy for Ricky makes our O a lot less dangerous.

Morris is only 215? Man, I thought he was at least in the 220+ range. He looks pretty stout.

I remember when they used Morris as a FB. Not traditional or very effective. I like Morris, but I think he is what he is, a journeyman RB. He doesn't have quite the field vision as RW or RB. He runs hard, but runs very high, which gives him less push when met by defenders. I remember that he addressed that in an interview before the season started. He is very good on ST. I do not really see him doing anything other than being a ST playmaker. He catches the ball out the the backfield very well, though.

Brown and Sammy Morris.

Talk about a colossal downgrade.......

Morris ran strong in 2004 all things considered, but he's really more of a FB. He's a decent player, and he could help us in times of desperation at RB, but we can never expect him to replace Ricky in terms of production...

PHINZ RULE!!!
