Top needs: RT, G, S, CB
Round 1 (19) S Calvin Pryor, Louisville
Round 2 (50) OT Joel Bitonio, Nevada
Round 3 (81) OT Jack Mewhort, Ohio St.

Analysis: Needs along the offensive line get skipped in Round 1 mainly because the board doesn't offer enough value at those positions in this slot. When Zack Martin went off the board at No. 17, it limited any possibility to go O-line here. Pryor is an impact player coming off a dominant season and can fill a need at safety. In Round 2 I go with Bitonio, a versatile offensive line prospect who can play either guard or tackle. Same with Mewhort in Round 3. I'd like to consider a cornerback in Round 3, but the issues on the line are more pressing. It's both a protection issue and about creating some running lanes. As it's currently constructed, I don't know if the line will be able to do either consistently, but this draft should help.

I'd rather get Zack Martin and Bitonio and solve the guard spots for the next decade.

safety would be nice at 19 if he can cover and and tackle

Them bringing in Delmas and letting everyone know Wilson will be playing S i feel like we wont draft there..

With the signing of Delmas to play along side of Jones, I do not see the Fins taking a safety.
It will either be BPA for future salary cap considerations, or a player that drops that we cannot pass up like Ebron.
I think we go defense and take either Mosely or Shazier. Ellerbee and Wheeler are both over paid and are not starter material. Hickey will have to address the ILB position

Safety isn't a need this season. Next season, yes.

If no Martin then Ebron or bust.

If you're getting the best value at a position that will be a need the very next season you take that player in a heartbeat.

Calvin Pryor ain't it, but you're exactly right.

The myopic nature of this board (there are obviously a number of exceptions) shouldn't surprise me, but (somehow) it always does.

And that's excluding the possibility of Delmas actually playing great for us ala Grimes last year... If he does then the need for a safety is no longer a need and just depth, which would make taking a 1st rounder for a position already set redundant... Still leaving holes in the O-line when you could just take a guy you KNOW will be able to man a spot instead of a 3rd or 4th rounder that may take more time to contribute.

Honestly? If Martin makes it to #19, get him. Then get Bitonio and Mewhort in the 2nd and 3rd. Our entire OL is solid for at least 7 years now. Next season we draft the LT. Our OL has to be the biggest need in the draft; giving up 58 sacks is why we didn't make the playoffs. We would have made the playoffs if we had even 35 sacks. Fix this offensive line NOW.
