So....I live in Melbourne, FL now and me and the wife and a couple of friends went out to this little hole in the wall bar/nightclub (uhmm....nothing like a normal club in S. FL...picture run down, "odd" people of all ages etc.) and they get a local live band to play on the weekend nights. So...all of a sudden some guy gets up on stage and starts rapping and he was flowing pretty good but I wasn't really paying attention. My buddy leans in to me and says "that guy is rapping dissing the Patriots"....I then turned my head....took a look at him...and listened to what he was saying....3 seconds later I looked back at my friend and said "Holy ____ that's Mercury Morris!" He looks at me and says "what" (he's mid-20's and a Packer fan...youngin...lol....I repeated to him "That's Mercury Morris....the RB from the '72 Dolphins man!"...

Anyways...this place is a hole in the wall with maybe a 100 people in it in all so the crowd's pretty small. I didn't have my camera so couldn't take a video of it but it was pretty cool to have him there. I told my wife (a knockout) to make her way over to him as he got off the stage and invite him over and I'd buy him a drink and we'd like to meet him etc. So, he came over and hung out with us for about 5 minutes, my friends tried taking a picture or two with their phones in a dimly lit room and I'll have them email them to me. I'm not a star-crazed person and know that he, and many others in the public spotlight are normal people with normal hopes and dreams etc. so we just had a casual conversation and told him we are big fans of his and dolphins and wished him well etc. He was a great guy to talk to for a few minutes and full of energy. He was a really nice, personable and friendly guy.

I sure didn't expect to run into him at this little crappy bar/nightclub but it definitely made our night!!! By the way...he was rapping a song title "Do U Wonder" (i believe after going to his website at http://www.mecurymorris22.com/ ) which was a pretty cool song. Anyone else heard it yet?

Cool story!

I wonder if amidst all the bright lights, and bar room smoke, he misheard the part about (you) buyin him the drink as he stepped off stage, and thought for a moment he'd earned himself a rap groupie?

:woot: :foundout: :winkwink:

Thanks for sharing! One of the reasons I love this website is I get to hear about stories like this!

Was this a couple of weeks ago. I know he was in the area to play in the Safety Harbor Golf Tounament at The Majors in Palm Bay. He plays in it every year with Larry Little. By the way, you just described 90% of the bars in Melbourne! Which one was it?

was just this last Fri. night (march 7th) at "The Cove" on A1A ( http://www.thecoveona1a.com ), a couple miles south of Patrick AFB. He did say he came up for some golfing and came up to Melbourne 2-3 times a year. No groupie here, lol, but he was a really nice guy to talk to for a few minutes.

The Cove. I haven't been there in a long time. He was one of my 3 heroes when I was a kid, I mean how could you not love a running back named Mercury! Too Cool!

Cool story but, man, this guy needs to quit embarrasing himself. The fact that he went on National T.V. and did that...... man, you couldn't pay me to do that.
