I think what upsets me the most, is the fact that Saban hasn't come out and apologized for doing such a poor job. He hasn't admitted to poorly preparing the team and he hasn't admitted to making some questionable personnel decisions. You can surround yourself with tons of coaches but they need to be decent.

Sure the run at the end of the season last year was over emphasized. But shouldn't we be better? At least a little better than last season. We aren't, we're worse. The competition so far this year has been much worse and we haven't been able to compete. Besides Ricky, we have more talent on offense than we had a year ago. The O-Line is the same and should certainly be better having worked with eachother for a couple years now. Everyone knew the D was old, but we had faith in Saban (Mr. Secondary) to prepare the new guys to at least compete. He failed there as well.

There is no reason that this team should be worse than it was last year and it isn't just a little worse, it's far worse. It's time Saban admitted it and it's time he got noticeably upset at himself and his team.

I think he believed the hype as much as anyone. He thinks his practices have gone well. He thinks that his team is well prepared each week. Sorry, but any good coach knows when practices have gone well and the team is well prepared. Most bystanders that know football could tell you if a team was prepared or not based on practices. There is no way in hell practices go well. No way. This team is as undisciplined as it is old and boring. What happens in practice is mirrored in games.

He has blinders on. He thought way to highly of himself over the offseason. He thought it was going to be easy and that all he had to do was make sure to replace one coach with at least 2 more. Unfortunately he forgot that bigger isn't necessarily better especially if the replacement coaches are bad.

I was still supporting him until a couple weeks ago. Now I want him to hold himself accountible. To sit in a conference and let the world know that he's made some huge mistakes and let himself, his team and his fans down.

If he wants to put a gag on the rest of his coaches than he should step up and start talking like a coach instead of a politician. Maybe he feels the way I want him to express but chooses not to. At some point it needs to be done. At some point you have to show everyone that you are upset. Let them know you aren't a bs artist and that you do care.

He has, does, and likely always will take the full blame for losing and poor play. What you mean when you say he should hold himself accountable is melt down like Denny Green and stare blankly into the crowd for a moment before walking out. I'm sorry, he's better than that, and I seriously doubt you're going to get what you want.

Awesome..since you're in his head and knows how he should feel...can you tell me how I feel? Thanks.

I think the Saban you see in press conferences tries to tone it down a little. We all know he can flip out on people in practice, and I'm sure his vents most of his frustrations there. Would you rather he goes beserk like Dennis Green and yells and hits the podium, cause now people just think that guy is completely crazy and has already lost the team. Acting nuts doesn't seem to solve anything.

Saban may also realize there's just not much he can do this season to right the ship. We can't consistently blitzes well, have trouble catching the ball, the o-line is always an adventure, and there's always someone wide open in the secondary. For all I know, any calm he has stems from the fact that he knows exactly what he needs to do in free agency and the draft to get things headed in the right direction again.

well said

Saban has a master plan which obviously does not include this season. I hope it includes getting rid of ove-paid garbage he has inherited and bringing in his own players and attitudes in the long term. Jeez i hope im right!

I understand your frustration, but i think he knows this is a veteran team that needs to police themselves.
i believes he's thinking i gave these guys a chance to come together as ateam and they won't,he had to put together a bunch of veterans because he did'nt have a choice, the cubbard was empty when he got here.

If they don't their gone and i believe he is aware of that

Thanks dj :njfin:  Well it seemed the most logical explanation with a new Coach taking over. Got to let the guy do it his way.

I haven't heard or seen him take full blame at all. I've haven't heard him say I haven't prepared this team the way I should have and I am sorry to everyone that thought we'd be at least as good as we were last year.

I don't want a meltdown like Green. Green's meltdown was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. He placed the blame on the team in that meltdown, not on himself.

Saban says things like, "It's obvious we didn't prepare as well as we thought we had". That isn't taking the blame. That's diffusing the blame among the whole team and suggesting that he feels/thought that they had prepared well enough. He even suggests in many of his conferences that he still feels they've been well enough prepared. I honestly don't think the guy thinks much of what's happened this year has been his fault. He was payed an enormous amount of money and at some point that has to effect everyone. You come in with little or no professional resume and are paid as much or more than the most successful coaches of all time. Has to go to your head a bit. You have to believe that you are better than you are and he did.

With that said, I certainly believe he's good enough and smart enough to turn it around. But the first thing he needs to do is take a good, long, hard look in the mirror and each day humble himself a little bit. If this season continues as it started. He'll go down as coaching one of the worst teams in football history. Hate to break it to everyone, but we are equal to the Raiders right now. Tennessee and Houston are better.

This is from this press conference on Monday, direct quote:

(On if he thinks some of his comments after Sunday’s game were misinterpreted as pointing the finger at players) – “No, I think what I was trying to make a point of is that we want to be able to make corrections. We want to be able to do that. That’s important that we do that. We want to do it. It’s like when I’m asked the question, ‘Are you wondering why?’ If you start wondering why sometimes, it makes you wonder, ‘How are we going to get this done?’ Well, we have to know the process. They have to believe in the process. We have to work on it to do it together. I’m not pointing any fingers. I think everybody has tried to get me to point the finger at somebody at some point in time, and I refuse to do it. We don’t want players to mess up, and we’re going to coach everything that we know so that they don’t mess up. That’s what we’re going to continue to do. Everybody’s question is, ‘If you’re doing all of that, why does it continue to happen?’ Then everybody wants to point a finger and try to say, ‘It’s your fault. It’s my fault.’ I say it’s my fault, ok? (It’s) nobody else’s fault because if I said it’s somebody else’s fault, then I’m pointing the finger. I can’t win this one, so it’s my fault. You understand?â€Â

And there it is.

Blatant Sabanism

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

(On if he agrees with Channing Crowder’s comment after the Green Bay game that the loss was embarrassing) – “I’m not embarrassed. I’m not embarrassed with the effort of the team.

He should have been as embarrassed as Channing was if not more. Maybe Channing should coach. He seems to have a much more realistic and sane perspective on wins and losses than Saban does.

There were a million little mistakes that were embarrassing in that game. Mistakes that professionals who are making millions aren't supposed to regularly make at this stage in the game.

The Dolphins lost at home to another one of the worst teams in the league and that team didn't even play well. It was embarrassing. The missed kick because of a delay of game is supremely embarrassing. The way it ended was supremely embarrassing. Once again, Saban didn't have his guys prepared and once again he's suggested there are a lot of positives to build off of.

Here's the problem. They DIDN'T DO A WHOLE LOT RIGHT. There aren't a lot of positives to build off of. There are a few, yet Saban is suggesting there are tons. I'm tired of it. He needs to stop being so optimistic because it's making him look like he doesn't have a grasp on reality.

Some of the team seems to have a pretty clear idea what's going on, how come Saban doesn't?

No, there it isn't. In the same breath, he says he can't win, whether he places the blame on the team or himself, so because he can't win, he'll take the blame himself. He doesn't believe it's mostly his fault. He can't, it's not in his nature.

I am getting pretty sick of Saban waxing philosophical all the time as well. Just tell it like it is, I feel like i'm watching a presidential address rather than a head coaches PC. Saban never should have turned down dinner with the president, i'm sure they would have gotten along just great.
