Merged 3x: C. Greenway done for season

yeah that sucks saw it on ESPNEWS

IMO you never had a shot at the playoffs this season, to many holes and unless the Bears were just a mirage last year then it wasnt happening for you, and this lessens the already slim chance

Im calling for Tarvaris Jackson to start (since Johnson has no upside and you arent making the playoffs anyway), damn he looked good at QB

anyway Ive never been a greenway fan but sorry your guy got hurt

There aren't near as many holes as you would think. I just hate to see anyone hurt, especially season ending, during the preseason.

yeah thats what scares me most about pre-season

damn, that sucks to lose your first rounder in the first pre-season game!

there were a lot, i mean a LOT of people around here clamoring for us to take this guy in the first round.... i was not among them, and i'm so glad we didn't... and not just because he was an injury-prone linebacker... this guy has trev alberts written all over him...

a tall, lanky linebacker from the big 10? have we as fans learned nothing from the disaster that was rick graf?

Vikes can take the North.Vikes have a strong Dline (one of the best) and and strong secondary.Yes the Greenway loss is huge seeing how thats Minnesotas weakest postion.I think they still can win the north.Brad Johnson if he stays healthy will produce nicley. The offense fits him perfectly. They have nice RB depth with the addtion of Chester Taylor. They also got Birk! But damn 2 great players loss for the year.Tank Williams and Chad Greenway get better!!!

Why would the Vikes give up on making the playoffs before the season starts? Because of the mighty Bears? Packers? Cmon. They have a good shot of winning that division, the teams in the division suck. Brad Johnson is going to have a good year in that offense, hes always been a high percentage passer, he will do well. You dont throw a season in the toliet to develop Tarvaris Jackson I mean cmon the guy looked good in a preseason game. The NFL Europe and the Arena League are full of "guys that looked good in the Preseason".

probably an acl tear because i read that they had done an MRI and thats for soft tissue like ligament and tendons

Vikings lose top pick

Vikings rookie linebacker Chad Greenway is out for the season, the result of a knee injury he sustained in Minnesota's first exhibition game.

Greenway was hurt covering a kickoff in Monday night's 16-13 loss to the Oakland Raiders. He had an MRI test Tuesday morning, but a news release issued by the team didn't specify the nature of the injury. It's likely a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, judging by the way he hobbled off the field, the way he was examined by trainers on the sideline, and the expected length of his absence.

Coaches and players were unavailable for comment Tuesday, the first day off for the Vikings since training camp began. In a prepared statement, coach Brad Childress said he was confident the first-round draft pick would be "completely healthy for the 2007 season."

While he has been the backup weakside linebacker to E.J. Henderson all spring and summer, Greenway was destined for a significant role in the defense -- especially on passing downs. His athleticism is also a good fit for special teams, where he was playing when he got hurt.
