Lynch is in his first year building a team and sometimes you can afford to acquire a very good player with the knowledge that he may miss the first year. Obviously not ideal, but he's not the first to take such a gamble. The 49ers are in a mush different situation than we are. Buffalo still drafted RB Willis McGahee in '03 after he blew out his knee in a national champion knowing he would miss the entire season. The Cowboys just made a similar decision last year when they drafted LB Jaylon Smith. McGahee certainly worked out and the jury is still out on Smith. If Foster becomes the player as expected for them, no one will care about the risk taken and they will actually be lauded for their patience should it work out in their favor.
