Merged: Anybody hear anything on Fitz? / Resigns with Cards

It's been real quiet the past few days, which tells me that the Cardinals are trying to re-work his deal to keep him. You'd think if he was being shopped around that there would be a leak somewhere saying trade talks are in progress.

I doubt we'll be going after him. Philly seems to be the top suitor but it Banner went public saying they never offered Sheppard and Brown and wont go after Fitz.

Other than the Eagles rumors I haven't heard anyone else was interested.

Update:
A trade for Fitzgerald? Don't count on it

Larry Fitzgerald is a lot like a $1 million luxury car.

A lot of us would love to wake up tomorrow morning and find one in our driveway, but the chances of it happening are about the same as Randy Moss catching a pass from Donovan McNabb this fall.

Fitzgerald, of course, is the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver on the wish list of just about every Eagles fan. Over the weekend, some media reports surfaced that coach Andy Reid's team had made trade offers in an attempt to pry the former Valley Forge Military Academy star away from the desert.
It's not happening.

A league source said Saturday night that the Eagles have talked to the Cardinals about Fitzgerald, but the discussions have never gone beyond an inquiry as to whether Arizona planned to trade its star wide receiver. The answer has always been the same - absolutely not.

hmmmm miamis still needs a wr maybe keyshawn?

With Keyshawn and Parcells having a close relationship, you'd think that if Keyshawn had anything left in the tank he would have remained a Cowboy or would have been re-signed in 2007. Especially with the depth problem at WR last year in Dallas.

I don't see a soon to be 36 year old Keyshawn fitting in on this roster. IMO Booker is probably a better player at this point and the Dolphins just released him.

FITZGERALD EXTENDS HIS DEAL
According to an announcement posted on what appears to be his personal web site, Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald has agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract with the team.
Fitzgerald's site says that he'll get $30 million guaranteed, and $33 million over the next three years.
He had been scheduled to earn more than $14 million in salary in 2008 and more than $17 million in salary in 2009 based on eight-figure escalators for which he qualified based on his performance during the first four years of his career.
The deal also supposedly contains a clause that permits Fitzgerald to block any trade without his consent (which protects him from being traded to one of the really bad franchises . . . like the one he currently plays for).

The Cards need to fire their Salary Cap guy... like yesterday.

All this happed because Fitz's rookie contract was heavily incentive laden. And gues what, Fitz satisfies all those incentives. Now they owe him $14M.

Good for Fitz though. They wanted to structure it that way, now he deserves his money.

So much for that, how the hell did the Cards afford such a big deal anyway given their cap situation?

Fitz Resigns With Cards

According to his personal website, Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals have agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract, with $30 million guaranteed.

He'll get $33 million over the next three years. Fitzgerald had been scheduled to make $32 million over the next two seasons, but it was unlikely any team would pay him the $18 million he was due in 2009. The deal gets the Cardinals out of the terrible rookie contract they negotiated with Fitzgerald, but comes too late for them to make any impact free agent signings.

I have no problems with the fact that the Cards owed Fitz so much money. Fitz is a great receiver, one of my favorite and he is lights out. They gave him so many incentives and he met them. He deserves his money.

As KGB says in Rounders, "Pay him, pay that man his money".

It can only get worst for the Cardinals salary cap.

They better hope Leinart doesn't play up to his potential. If they get the Leinart we all watched against the Chicago Bears defense on MNF 2 seasons back consistently, the Cardinals are going to have to ask the NFL for a loan.

Though, after 2010, the NFL may be uncapped.

The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly on the verge of reaching an agreement with WR Larry Fitzgerald on a contract extension....It's reportedly a 4 year $40 million dollar deal with $30 million guaranteed and $33 million upfront for the first 3 years and includes a no-trade clause...the deal is pending NFL approval.
