Atlanta Rushing Offense - That Good? Or Bad Run Defenses?

16th, 21st, 24th, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st.

Thats where the Falcons 7 opponents so far rank in run defense.

Is this vaunted Falcon rushing offense we've been told to be so afraid of that good?, Or have the rushing defenses they faced been that bad?

The Dolphins have been inconsistent this year, but I think if the good Dolphins show up we can whip these boys.

The Falcons rushing attack may look better then is actually is due to playing some horrible run defenses, but there isnt any doubt that the Falcons would have a top 5 rushing offense no matter who they played. I think they ended up last season #1 as well.

Good points Bluefin.. Warrick Dunn, TJ Duckett and Vick are that good and GIbbs' offensive line is that good at run blocking

Sure, poor rush defense helped get the falcons where they are in terms of running the ball but those rankings are deceiving in this case because the Falcons are a very good rushing team, regardless of who they have faced this year.

You're correct. Although I think it'll be a tougher game this Sunday. If you haven't witnessed our run game, don't let the stats fool you...

Vick certaintly makes their rushing stats look better. I know he's a threat, but if you take away Vicks running, it's not as good - still very effective, just not quite the same.

You are probably right. Even the threat of Vick running messes with Defenses heads. The O line of Atlanta does a very good job of run blocking. I think its going to come down to staying in our lanes and not getting to excited, executing Sabans plan.

Did it occur to anyone that these teams' rank dropped after Atlanta ran on them for 200 yards?
No kidding, that will certainly hurt your ranking!!

I wouldn't leave a spy on Vick because that never works...

Yes, I looked it up earlier, very interesting.

Defense:

Miami: rushing offenses faced

1524 for 6313; 4.12 average.
take away their 212 carrys for 783 yards vs. Miami and you have
1322 for 5530; 4.18 average.
Miami gave up an average of 3.69 vs. these teams. Very good!

Atlanta: rushing offenses faced

1275 for 5176; 4.06 average.
take away their 179 carrys for 838 yards vs. Atlanta and you have
1096 for 4338; 3.96 average.
Atlanta gave up an average of 4.68 vs. these teams. Terrible!

Offense:

Miami: rushing defenses faced

1404 for 5701; 4.06 average.
take away Miamis 180 carrys for 820 yards and you have
1224 for 4881; 3.99 average.
Miami put up an average of 4.56 vs. these teams. Very good!

Atlanta: rushing defenses faced

1586 for 6762; 4.26 average.
take away Atlantas 242 carrys for 1317 yards and you have
1344 for 5445; 4.05 average.
Atlanta put up an average of 5.44 vs. these teams. Outstanding!

Summary:

Miami is very good on both sides. Atlanta is outstanding on offense and terrible on defense. That makes me feel good about the game, because as we all know, this game will be all about running the ball. Plus our running game just started rolling and we have more the kind of running game that eats the clock, which should be very imoportant for the outcome of the game. They probably will have more carrys for 10+, but the danger of going three and out with three runs should be much higher on their side.

Either way, this game, more than any other will tell us where our team is going this year. If we can shut down, or atleast limit Dunn's production, something nobody else has been able to do this year, will speak volumes about who we are:evil:

the Falcons run offense will be tested this weekend and further tested against the Bucs and Panthers. If they are good than they will prove it
