Merged: Billy Volek

I heard Jeff Fischer on Fox Sports this morning talking about their QB situation. His comment was that they were in the process of evaluating Volek to see if he is the guy of their future, but they might give attention to the position in the draft. Either way, it is too early to tell if Volek is going to be moved, but it could be possible.

Hello Everyone!

Because the staff at FinHeaven is always looking for better ways to organize, and streamline the site, we've decided to re-structure a portion of it.
You'll notice that what was once the College| Draft Forum has now been split.
We've renamed the original forum to simply "College Football" and created a new forum called "Draft Forum". We are now in the process of moving threads around so that they are in the appropriate forums.
We've also created a new sub-forum within the General NFL forum, called "Free Agents".
We ask that you keep these forums in mind when posting, as we'd like to continue keeping the main Dolphins forum uncluttered, and pertaining to the current Dolphins team.

When posting, please keep these guidelines in mind:

Miami Dolphins - Please keeps threads related to current Dolphins players/staff etc here

College Football - Please keep threads related to current college teams/players/games here

Draft Forum - Please keep mock drafts/draft wish lists/potential draft picks, etc in here.

Free Agents - Please keep discussions about potential free agents here.

We realize that this may mean an adjustment for everyone, but we feel that in the long run it will make things easier for all of us. Not only will it make it "cleaner" and uncluttered in the main forum, but it will also make it easier to find the FA discussions, mock drafts etc...

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact the Staff either by PM or by posting in the Questions and Comments forum.

Thanks in advance for your anticipated cooperation, and we look forward to an active offseason of improving our Dolphins through free agency and the draft, and an exciting 2006 football season!

Tennessee have high interests on drafting Jay Cutler. They've been talking about Cutler alot now than before.

This has a huge effect on the draft no doubt about it. It's very possible that if Young goes #1, the Titans will end up with Bush so they're thinking long and hard about Volek. Volek is a candidate to go to New York.

Billy Volek???

If Vince Young does fall to Tennessee then they will definitely keep Mcnair to groom Young for a year and that drops Volek to 3rd on the depth chart. We could probably get him pretty cheap, good arm, accurate passer.

I wouldn't mind him. He did pretty good for them in 2004 when McNair was hurt.

The problem with Volek is that he is already 30, so he is not a long-term solution. He also has problems with accuracy. Last year when he came in, all that he did was throw deep balls. Nice touch, but problems with out-routes, etc.

they skipped Volek to start "No. 3" Matt Mauck late this season... seems one of those two will be gone

And Frerotte did pretty good for the vikes when Culpepper was hurt too...

Hey I totally agree with you that he is kind of old but he has not been used all that much in his 6 years so he is pretty fresh. Plus if we do end up with t.o. the deep ball with come in handy with t.o. and c.c. Plus we haven't ben to a superbowl in over 20 years so I don't want to wait a year or two to develop a 2nd or 3rd round qb and I don't want a broken down Favre or Warner so I think we could be a serious player in 06 with Volek...

I think he would be a great pick up fpr the right price, and if saban were to add TO into the arsenal of weapons available to volek, this offense would be downright scary for opposing defenses (keep in mind, tennesee has very limited talent on the offensive side of the ball with the exception of their QB's
and maybe a lineman or 2, and just maybe on 2). Whatever saban does, I have faith in his decision and shall not question it, for he is the messiah of miami dolphins football and shall restore greatness to this most holy of franchises.....Amen.

If I had rany moss to throw to back then I would have been a good qb too. Volek had Drew Bennett and Mason who are far from Moss.

I remember when Volek went crazy on that Monday night game a couple years ago and I thought he was he was going to be the next star QB but he hasn't done much since....mainly due to backing up McNair....at 30 he is not that old...might be worth a look...I would take a healthy Culpepper before Volek though.
