It doesnt make any sense. I dont accept the fact that San Diego would let a great QB go, even if he's injured. I mean, offer him a one year deal and start rivers. Put the two in opposite positions, with Brees on the bench, ready to come in if things fall through. Not get rid of a great QB.

Something has to be wrong, something we dont know about and no one will mention because they want to get more money for Brees.

Things like this dont happen without a reason. Maybe im just paranoid, but I hope Brees isnt spoiled goods.

Feeley is a decent back up kind of like Sage was, they will be fine w him as the #2

Hah! the only reason he's does an ok job as their back up is if he hands the ball off to LT. If they ask him to do anything that involves reading a defense he's screwed.

As bad as he played at times at other times he did look really good, and showed some toughness, as a backup in Philli he did well for himself, no need to think he cant continue to be a good backup

I am a bit paranoid also.. They are practically forcing him out the door..A torn labrum with rotater cuff damage is not good for a QB. Especially one who did not have a above average arm in the first place.

How long can you let Rivers sit on the bench? Its a waste of a pick

and Brees wouldnt stay to be a backup

They did the right thing at the right time

They don't really have a choice. For a couple reasons...

1. A top of the line starting quarterback takes a good-sized percentage of your team's payroll. How can any team expect to keep TWO long term? You just can't with a salary cap.

2. San Diego REALLY screwed this up. And Brees' injury really called them out.

They should have had the guts to trade either Brees or Rivers last year when they could have gotten a king's ransom for either of them.

They didn't. Whether that is because of greed or because they were afraid of whoever they kept doing poorly and making them look stupid, I don't know.

But they blew it big time.

So put yourselves in their shoes now... you have to pay Brees a ton to sign him, you're already paying Rivers a ton and now on top of the money issues, Brees is hurt. So inaction on their part has taken the decision out of their hands, really.

I wouldn't worry about any "hidden defects." People have seen this coming every year that the Chargers didn't make the move they needed to.

It sounds like Brees, from that article, was doing everything in his power TO stay. At least with his injury, you could justify keeping him on the bench and being a fail safe. The article makes good points, read it if you havent already.

agreed, the back office loves rivers and he is projected as a higher talent than brees. Only time will tell.

trust me there is nothin wrong with brees and if there is the dolphins will find it way before they offer the contratc to him. and the only reason the chargers let him go is because of rivers contract. in the nfl u cant have a starting qb making 9 million and then having ur backup who u drafted a few years back to replace ur current starter that decided to finally come around. so to make themself look good to the fans the chargers had to let brees go and put rivers on the field. they have to show the fans that there decision to trade eli to the gaints was as good of a move as trading there pick a few years back to atlanta allowing the falcons to get vick and them get L.t. so it's all bout the dollars here. and nothing to do with the injury, brees is already three months ahead of recovery and if there is something wrong the doctor for miami will find it and then brees wont be a dolphin.

But anyway Brees is a fin by the end of the weekend along with adams and mawae :dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins:

You make good points. I still am a bit bothered about how quickly theyre forcing him out, but if we get him and he can play, its only for our benefit.

They were thinking about dumping him before he starting shining. That's why they got Rivers even though they wanted Manning. Now they have two HIHGLY PAID QBs on the roster, thats very rare, especially when one is simply sitting on the bench.

Yea there is something fishy ... its called their owner being CHEAP ... keep two high payed QB's on the Chargers? No way

They aren't desperate at QB, they drafted/traded for Rivers with the 4th overall pick. The Chargers only option would be to franchise Brees, because Brees knows he will get a better deal from a team that is desperate for a QB. (Dolphins!)
This is a Brees move more than it is a Chargers move.

It doesn't make sense to me either.

It doesn't make sense to me either and I'm a Charger fan. But our GM, AJ Smith drafted Philip Rivers, and he hates Marty Schottenheimer (who's commited to starting Drew).

Whatever the reasons, it looks like our imcompetance is your good fortune. :(
