LOS ANGELES -- Though coach Pete Carroll says he's committed to staying at Southern California, he seems intrigued by the ideas of Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga.
Carroll said Tuesday that he had a compelling, four-hour meeting with Huizenga in Costa Rica over the weekend.
Carroll said he was not offered the Miami coaching job, and stressed in a campus news conference that he has never come close to thinking he would leave USC.
"I'm thrilled to be here," he said. "As I've been the whole time, I haven't wavered. I know that being curious about it has helped me appreciate what we have here.
"I absolutely expect to be here."
But he did say Huizenga has an unusual approach for an NFL owner.
"This was the one instance I've come in contact with that has all the elements I have talked about," Carroll said. "[Huizenga] has structured a program where the head coach has the entire say, from top to bottom.
"It's a one-voice program. I don't think there are any other situations like that in the NFL."
Carroll formerly coached the New York Jets and New England Patriots before coming to USC, and has often said he preferred coaching in the college ranks because he had complete control.
Carroll returned earlier in the day from Costa Rica, where he had been vacationing since No. 4 USC beat No. 8 Michigan 32-18 in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
Huizenga met with Carroll in Costa Rica on Sunday. The Dolphins have been without a coach since Nick Saban abruptly resigned last week to take the Alabama job.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Pete Carroll says he's committed to staying as Southern California's football coach, but admits he's intrigued by the ideas of Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga.
Carroll confirms he had a four-hour meeting with the Dolphins owner in Costa Rica over the weekend about the team's vacant coaching job.

he "absolutely" expects to return as Southern California's coach.
But Carroll admits he's impressed by the way Huizenga has
structured the Miami coaching job, giving the head coach absolute total authority "from top to bottom."

Pete Carroll staying at USC

Posted on ESPN a short while ago: "Carroll said he was not offered the Miami coaching job, and stressed in a campus news conference that he has never come close to thinking he would leave USC. Here's the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2725843 It does appear, though, that Wayne is not shying away from granting complete power to the Head Coach position. So, there's a candidate that you can probably cross off the list. Thank God, too... I didn't want Carroll anyway! -Eddie

That's good news and bad news. Good news that Carroll is staying at USC and bad news is that Huizenga still is using the same system that got him in trouble with the 3 previous head coaches.

He's simply got it made. A good program, lots of movie, amazing location...Why would he leave?

Im glad his names not in the ring anymore though, cause i dont want him here.

the first two got us into the playoffs for 5 years.

I honestly dont think he would have fared any better in the NFL now than he did previously

Thank God!!! Even though I think Miami winning is more contingent on the palyers they bring in then the HC, I think Carrolls style works in College, not the Pros. I want someone that's been on a team that's been winning for a lot of years, not one season. I think Fassel has had quite a bit of success as a coach. Just throwing that out there.

Any way we can hold him to that statement if he changes his mind. I feel a Saban/Petrino coming on

The title is misleading...where does he say he's staying/not leaving?
