Does Chambers Want Sage?

Of course we can't know for sure, so this is all just speculation, but it's noteworthy to me that Chambers snagged the ball from Sage in double-coverage, which is something he's had trouble doing with other QBs, especially Frerotte.

Obviously Chambers can't march into Nick Saban's office and plead with him to start Sage. The only way he can "plead" for Sage is by giving more effort when Sage is at QB. And that may not be a conscious choice on his part -- he may simply get more motivated to play when the QB he wants is in the game. Sure he should be 100% motivated regardless of who is at QB, but he's human just like the rest of us.

In Sage's two appearances in the regular season (Baltimore last season and KC the other night), Chambers has 5 catches for 233 yards and 2 TDs.

Draw your own conclusion, but I thought it was worthy of discussion.

I agree, I am willing to see SAGE play but remember it was one pass

Exactly. Last year in Sage's only start, he hit Chambers for a 76 yard td on the first play. The rest of the game was horrible with Sage giving up 3 ints. I dont mind giving him a shot but I wont expect much out of him.

i would expect more out of him then from gus, sage has got some more expeierence and has learned alot since his last start....i believe he god lead this team to an 8-8, 9-7 season

Agreed.

Actually I expect a lot out of everyone who plays.

In his start last year, Sage also threw 3 Ints, but this year the offense has been protecting better and it has Ronnie and Ricky. We have missed many opportunites with open receivers and sufficient pocket time. It only takes a few long completions to re-establish a full field threat thereby keeping defenses honest against Ronnie and Ricky and giving us balance. Last year we had no running threat and less QB protection.

Being that we are already 2-4, it may prove quite interesting to see Sage get some play.

Chambers...

I'm sick of making excuses for Chambers. It doesn't matter who the QB is, he needs to go and get his. He's quickly falling into the David Boston category of super talented receivers who have no heart. Ever since Kennedy laid him out in Denver he's lost his edge. I'm convinced he's one of the best #2 receivers in the league, but we should forget about him ever being our #1. We should make receiver a priority in the offseason. Chambers just doesn't have it.

Chambers needs to fight for the ball more and I don't think Sage is the answer.

Did Chambers have a crack at the Booker throw??? I had trouble seeing it on NFL.com

Receiver Demeanor Warrants Change

We have all seen it. Even in backyard football. When you are catching passes and the quarterback misses you over and over again you start to expect it. You lose confidence. Your shoulders drop and you shake your head. You become frustrated.

This is happening in Miami. I will give one for sure example of this. The corner of the endzone pass to Booker. Go to NFL.com and watch this play. Booker looks like a frustrated Terrell Owens when he his quarterback short hops him a ball. Booker is a player with no confidence in Frerotte. McMichael, and Chambers have done it too, but i cannot point out a specific instance right now.

If you watch the game, pay close attention to the receivers reactions after an incompletion.

They do not have confidence in him. That should be all Saban needs to make a change.

He had to turn and dive for it. It looked like he was working his *** off that play.

I don't believe Chambers will deliberately play differently to oust a QB. That is patheitc and completely unprofessional.
Not from the standpoint that he maybe frustrated with the delivery of the balls he receives...... Now that is a different argument.
Booker, McMichael, and Chambers all looked disgusted last night.
And that might lead to a change.

I definitely don't think Chambers would make a conscious choice to play worse when Frerotte is at QB. But if he thinks Sage should be the QB, it would make sense that he gets more of an emotional spark going when Sage is in the game.

The times Chambers gets out-fought for balls downfield, he looks to me like he's missing an emotional spark, like he's missing the hunger for the ball you see other receivers have. Snagging a ball in double-coverage like he did the other night is the opposite of that, and it's really the first time I've seen him do it all year. He's made some great catches, sure, but I hadn't seen him out-fight anybody until the other night.

Sage didn't do terrible, it was his first game and he was playing arguably the best Defense in the league with Baltimore. One his int were from being tip at the line, but chambers had 146 yards in that game against one of the best secondarys last year, MCcalister, Baxter, Ed Reed, Deion Sanders, etc. It was his best game of the year, and there was a spark to the offense, like there wasn't before that year. They were moving the ball down the field. I think we should try, becuase if Gus continues to lay, Miami will have a very tough time winning games, becuase teams will keep on stacking the line and force Gus to beat them, which he obviously can't becuase he is so inaccurate. Sage, however,is accurate and will make the throw and make the Defense pay for it. I think it could help Linehan and the receivers, too. I don't think he would do any worse than Gus.

I think he wants someone who can get the ball to him, whether its sage or cleo I'm sure he doesnt care. Just so long as the ball gets there.
