Merged: Dolphins sign FS Chris Harrell

Chris Harrell

I just saw on MiamiDolphins.com that we signed a safety today. His name is Chris Harrell and he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cardinals this year. He played at Penn State and has pretty good size (6'2, 210 lbs.). His strengths are reputed to be a good burst out of his breaks and strong tackling ability. One of his weaknesses that was mentioned was problems with awareness in coverage. It also said he came back from a serious neck injury. Here is the rest of the article:

Chances are that he won't make the roster, especially if we only keep three safeties. I would think that Yeremiah Bell, Renaldo Hill and Cameron Worrell are locks to make the team, with Jason Allen being an emergency safety.

Any Penn State fans here that can shine a little light on this guy? Thanks!

According to MiamiDolphins.com: The 24-year-old Harrell went to camp with Arizona as an undrafted college free agent last year and was released prior to the regular season. He played with Berlin of NFL Europa this past spring where he recorded 48 tackles and tied for the team lead with two interceptions.

The 6-1, 212-pounder was a four-year letterman (2001-03, 2005) at Penn State where he amassed 228 career tackles and an interception. Born January 29, 1983, Harrell attended Euclid (Ohio) High School.

We could use a young DB who has potential to step up.

How about other NFL Europa standout and former dolphin Ben Ishola. He is a free agent. Anyone remember when or why we cut him?

Wonder if the slow to develop Jason Allen is in jeopardy?

I liked this guy and saw quite a bit of him while watchin PSU play the past few years.... I think a great pick up. See how he does in preseason games will be huge ...

That's a little below average 40 time for a linebacker, but horrible for a safety, especially a free safety.

Id say the vast majority of the LB's who came out this year ran a faster time. With tht being said hes probably nothing special anyways, but times dont mean much in my book.
