exactly the reason NOT to take a rb at #2

great news from dolphinsville as ronnie brown and his agent have made it known they want to get PAID. everyone knows as a #2 pick you are going to get a phat deal, but i think brown's agent is asking for an absurd amount. reguardless of what we end up paying him i will tell you this: if our offensive line blocks, then any of the backs we have can be successfull. minor, morris, or harris. if they block like they did last year, brown or anyone else in the backfield is going to struggle to get 3 yards per carry.
this is why i'm against taking a running back with the #2 pick. DBs and WRs are what i think you should take when you are drafting top 5. they dont rely so heavily on other things as other positions do.

EDIT: please note that the title of this thread is "exactly the reason NOT to take a RB at #2"

it is not "exactly the reason not to draft a player at #2"

it seems that several people have been confused with this. i will try to be more clear in future thread titles.

Let him hold out, I dont' care. I want him fresh for NEXT year (2006). This year is strictly rebuilding. We aren't going anywhere anyway in 2005.

any deal for a top 1 or 2 pick is absurd.

They only seem to want the going rate for absurdity anyways.

The #2 overall pick in the draft is going to get PAID whether he's a RB, WR, QB or DB. Drafting a RB at #2 is no different than drafting a WR at #2. They'll both want to get a "phat" contract.

We couldn't get anybody to trade down with us.

I don't understand your point?

I just want to know what their talking about when they say "complicated contract"

Is Master P Negotiating again?

If you are a good agent, you ask for an absurd amount when first asking for a contract. Esp. for a #2 pick. If he doesn't he won't be an agent long.

Relax it will get done and look good on both sides. Ronnie wants to be in TC as soon as possible. Let's not get crazy and say we are better off w/o him, keepin Minor in the backfield.

my point is that in my opinion running backs are not worth the huge contracts. i believe those are a better value at cb and wr, and qb IF IF IF you have a true franchise qb. if our line blocks good this year, you are gonna see morris and harris be just as productive as ronnie brown and compare their salaries. just look at how denver and kc plug anyone in back there and get yards. anyone want to bet right now maurice clarrett gains more yards this season than ronnie brown?

The #2 pick gets paid regardless of the position. Some posters were saying that a QB at #2 was more expensive. That simply isn't true.

I'll take that bet in a heartbeat. Name your wager.

R Brown will be starting. Clarett will be 2nd or 3rd string.

you knew how much you were gunna have to pay him when you found out you had the #2 pick. its not a surprise.

I understand you point now as well.

I think it's crazy to think Clarett is going to out rush Brown this year though.

I'll make a friendly wager with you, if you dare  . No way Clarett gets that many touches with Tatum Bell healthy. Tatum Bell will be the stud in that offense this year.

lol let him sit out... we can get the #2 pick next year and get a lineman for him

we took the best player available, we didn't settle for someone for contract purposes or worrying about money... whoever we took was gonna cost big bucks, so overpaying a WR or a RB doesn't matter to me as long as we got the best player, which we did...
