Jay Feely wanted to stay with the Giants, but the Giants decided kicker wasn't a position on which they needed to spend extra money. So they chose not to make a competitive offer and Feely agreed to a three-year, $6-million deal with the Dolphins last night, with roughly $2.5 million guaranteed, according to a person with knowledge of the contract details.

ADDENDUM
For those who are worried about kickoffs Feely has a KO average of 63.6 yds , Mare has 64.....not that much difference.

He also made 12 touchbacks and he made 3 out 5 FGs over 50yrds

bye bye Olindo

just curious if signing Feely is saving us that much. he's going to count 833,333 plus base salary against the cap. dont know the cap hit we take by cutting Mare

Olindo had one bad year, I think it's a bad decision to let him go.
Dolphins were a bad football team last year and Mare didnt lose games with his foot.

24 touchbacks shows his leg strength is still there.

Someone else will pick up Mare and we'll see.

I agree - one bad season is not a reason to let Olindo go. His touchback record has been invaluable to us. It's a shame. Let's just hope he's not snatched up by a division rival.

:jawdrop:

I thought he was back with the Giants :hmmm:

i question it too...but Feeley is also younger...this definetely means we wont be drafting a kicker. But if Cam and Mueller think it was the right decision...then i trust them.

So what did we gain with this move? sounds like he's making about the same money, no? Wasn't that the biggest beef with Olindo? too much $?

I like Olindo, but if last year is a sign of things to come we need to be better at that position. ya gotta go with the guy you feel will get the points in a pinch... Kickers win games and kickers lose games. I wish Olindo all the best and am sure he'll do just fine on the market. And D@MN I'm gonna miss that booming leg on touchbacks!! :boohoo:

Too much money and not enough performance. The past 3 years haven't been kind to Mare, touchbacks aside.

Its really simple, the days of of being overpaid and underproductive are over for Dolphin players. Mare had great leg strength but is FG accuracy was horrible last year and only ok the previous the year.

WHOOOO!! No more Mare!! hey acmeanvil49 who is that in your avatar?

I don't agree with paying a kicker anything above $1.5 mil. The Dolphins should have drafted someone in the seventh round or picked up an undrafted free agent. It's not like Jay Feely is Adam Vinatieri.

Olindo has been in the decline for a few years now. You could tell that his best years are behind him.

His touchbacks will be missed, but Feely is a better field goal kicker.
